I never even got why the goa'uld would need a landing platform for their ships. They only used them like 3 times in the series and movies combined. Just bury the gate and c4 the ring platforms and we should be good to go.
Worst case scenario, wire the pyramids to blow if the ships start coming close.

How do you know what Mursi is? I don't see the military allowing it to happen, but bear in mind that Egyptian Muslims ALREADY destroyed the pyramids. They stripped them of their smooth white limestone exterior (except way up high) and used the stones to build mosques and palaces. Imagine how beautiful they'd be if they were intact.

So there is at least one person, (who is in Bahrain?) who wants to destroy the pyramids. So the story is totally legit; that dude has a plan.

usernameguy: Note that the person (singular) who called for the destruction of the pyramids is not even Egyptian, nor is there any indication, even in the article, that any Egyptian Muslims (much less any with any real power or influence) have a desire to destroy the pyramids.

I did note that, and disregarded the rest of the article as the ravings of Xtians who hate Islam.

Currently, the Islamic Brotherhood has nothing to gain and everything to lose by destroying the pyramids, even if they could; and they have never made any indication they want to "rid Egypt of it's pagan heritage." They need the tourist dollars, for one thing, and nobody is worshpping the old gods to the exclusion of Islam.

As far as the destruction of the Buddhas in Afghanistan, the Taliban had been railing against them for years, and you have to realize that the Muslim/Hindu split in the eastern 'stans is very volatile. (Yes, I know the statues are not Hindu) The statutes were in ruins due to decades of gunfire and grenade attacks by fundamentalists, and the Taliban's actions were more symbolic (See! Screw you, India!) than they were directed towards eradication of religion.

Civ V now has religions in the newest expansion, but I don't think any of them require you to destroy your ancient wonders. You would lose your 25% worker bonus.

Yea, but every time Christian Science Monitor can find one complete nut job in Egypt, they can claim he represents all of Egypt. In this story's case, the nut job isn't even Egyptian. The source for this story thinks that he's the super king of all Islam or something of the sort.

Use artillery to undermine a few spots halfway up and start a massive rock slide. In no time at all you could have a massive pile of blocks. Since they're a slow bunch I'd say it would take them a week, two weeks tops.

I've played the Civilization games since the original. And Civ V is very different. I like it, but many classic Civ players don't. It's best to think of it as a completely different game. The latest expansion adds a lot of new features I really like that add depth, like religion. I would suggest you wait for a pack that includes all the content, including the God's and Kings expansion. Separately, most of the downloadable content is a rip off.
