The article says Texas is #1 for businesses.

It doesn't say that Texas is #1 for employees.

In depth studies have shown that almost all the jobs are minimum wage only jobs. Texas makes Wal-Marts and Dollar Generals, not real jobs that can sustain people.

"Texas comes in 26th inEducation and 35th in Quality of Life. And while the state held the line on income taxes, the overall tax burden - including property and sales taxes - is high."

Enjoy your business without me.

NewportBarGuy: I moved from #1 Texas back to #50 Rhode Island.

Worked very well for me. Much happier and less hopeful for the end of the world. Measure that on your f*cking list.

Here! Here!

Seriously, regulations and taxes aren't there to prevent business from happening. It's from the realization that individual businesses are retarded, or at least that the retarded ones acting in a selfish matter have short-term advantage over businesses that try to be responsible. Decent employee pay and common sense regulations will prevent the economy from crashing in on itself every couple of years and the environment from becoming a wasteland because dumping cost an extra thirty cents per thousand of dollars in profit.

not to mention CA is 40 and I KNOW that Silicon Valley has been hiring for a while now.

Oh you mean the valley with the world's most profitable company, in the state which is #1 for venture capital, beating texas by almost 10x in deals?

Yeah, that place must *suck* for doing business in.

missiv: Isn't Texas number 1 for uninsured citizens? Are they also number 1 in zero employee benefits?

It's definitely close if it isn't number 1 in those two categories.

I've had the ahem ... interesting ... experience of living in North Carolina for a decade now, and I am continually amused at the state level politics. Republicans in this state have a talking point that more or less says this state is horrible for business and regulations/laws/whatever Democrats do make it horrible.

Yet here North Carolina is ranked 4th, and I've pretty much seen it in the top 10 on every list ... Forbes, Business Week, etc, etc.

It's amazing what stupid people will believe if the politicians they voted for say it over and over.

I bet the bon fires on Easter Island were the largest of all the Holiday Islands until they cut down all the trees and turned their paradise into a barren wasteland.

Only one of those matters, just because a good chunk of their citizens live in poverty, have poor education, reliant upon foodstamps is no matter....Business can rape and pillage at their leisure and that's a good thing!

I'm glad you've pegged your state to one statistic. How's that working out for you? Are you a temporarily embarrassed future millionaire? Are your other glaring failures not moot and Sarah Palin is automatically president?

Texas is a p*ssy state that talks tough but always comes begging to the fed when it needs it, or taking credit for stimulus spending. I live next door to you but even my state's bizarre voucher program doesn't make us as back-farkward as you people.

Yes, a guy from Louisiana is making fun of you. Let that sink in.
