Okay, that fault is understandable. Speaking of drinking a beer, though, I'd have one but I'm out right now. That said it's 9 o'clock, so I guess I'll wait until tomorrow to stock up.

Nope, we're pretty much alone with this...and the mile. Most everyone else uses commas.

Microbreweries in Israel and Palestine?

KA-BOOM!

The last thing the Middle East needs is microbrew beer snobs. They've got too many damn religions as it is.

Dude, it's the middle east. Just book an extra week in Vegas, or if you really hate yourself Phoenix. And if you want to get shot at go to the Mexican border.

Hipster "microbreweries" are bad in any society. Pretentious and snooty, including the fact that they make Denis Leary unhappy; and that's the biggest sin of all!

Wish I knew about these places when I was over there a couple years ago. I did try Gold Star, Maccabee, Taybeh, and a couple of others. Was not very impressed with any of them. Middle eastern beer was definitely lacking - but Egypt's was the worst. They have a 'Stella' which is NOT Stella Artois. Though even S.A. it not that great. But the Egyptian Stella was... terrible.

The Ugandans, on the other hand, have decent beer! Wonder if they still would if the jews were originally located there.

Who would think a culture that had problems getting bread to rise would have problems making good beer?

2012-07-11 03:32:16 AM
I've tried a lot of these. Taybeh is farking awesome. Especially their amber. Before the rise of the Israeli microbrewery, Israelis had Goldstar and the Palestinians had Taybeh. While Goldstar is more drinkable than any American mass produced beer, It's not even close. Taybeh wins hands down.

The two Negevs I had, ale and brown, were meh. Fairly bland and uncomplicated.

Two of the ones they missed, Malka and Bazelet really shine. Bazelet in particular. It was smooth and complex with a decent alcohol content. In my eyes Bazelet and Taybeh really set themselves apart.

I took the brewery tour at Taybeh. Fun. Nice people. Good beer. Bought a couple cases to share. Got a tshirt and bumper sticker too.

Huh. I fully expected Tatsuma in this thread to be arguing how the Israeli beer is well crafted, full of courageous hops and righteous barley and the Palestinian beer is swill.
