I'm wondering if subby ACTUALLY would have used the amazing tag.

[mini-rant]
It's clearly a video, since it's a Youtube link AND it was submitted to the video tab. So, the img1.fark.net tag is like doubly redundant at this point -- instead, use it to tell us if the video is cool, spiffy, interesting, amusing, etc.

It's 17 minutes of a cross between a gelfing and the albino from "The Princess Bride" singing 27 verses of a song from a Tolkien book, with about 30,000 words of You Tube text description featuring crap like this: "✖═══════════ஜ۩۞۩ஜ═══════════✖" and "Thanks for watching! *meow-meow* ,,, ^-.-^ ,,,"

So you tell me: cool, spiffy, interesting, amusing, etc.?

Amazing, indeed.

There is already a cool Misty Mountain song. It is by Led Zeppelin.

2012-07-10 04:57:10 PM
So that's where Richie Blackmore went...

Actually, it's kind of pleasant to listen to so long as I don't pay attention to the words. Then, it just gets weird. And, it's not the good weird. It's the bad kind of weird where I want to get all hopped up on mead, put on some gray robes and run through the park with a stick that has a piece of glass crammed into the top of it while screaming "LIGHTNING BOLT! LIGHTNING BOLT!"

Off the top of my head... weird, strange, spiffy, cool, and interesting all would have worked.... and for the comments a touch of asinine, stupid, fail, with just a hint of Caturday.

That was nice...but the stuffed animals in the background seemed put of place and kinda weird.

It wasn't bad, but good grief, you couldn't do a bridge or two?

Yeh, the tune was nice, but it needed some variation, something to break it up a bit.

True since it is basically the LotR trilogy shrunk down to a little over four minutes.

/STILL can't get into LotR and I'm a geek

Indeed, but I was referring strictly to the use of Misty Mountain in the title.

/but Gollum and the evil one, crept up and slipped away with her-er, her-er, her chair?

Glad I'm not the only one that noticed that. Not quite sure what sort of vibe they're going for with the scenery there.

Yeah me too. It's the kind of song my parents would have played way back in the 70's to get us to go to sleep at night.

Hate lord of the rings, this is really beautifully done. Very clear and pretty voice. I appreciate the lore of the books but hate them for their shiatty writing and characters. Feel the same about Game of Thrones. Why can't fantasy authors WRITE well instead of just imagining well?

2012-07-10 07:37:40 PM
It ain't "Where There's a Whip There's A Way", and if it ain't "Where There's a Whip There's a Way" then I don't care.

/Not true. She has talent.
//I still prefer the songs from the old Rankin-Bass films, though.

I have to agree with your assessment of Tolkien's writing ability. Boring, tedious, ponderous and really not that interesting, to be honest.

So who writes fantasy well, in your opinion? I have never read or tried to read Game of Thrones books (A Song of Ice and Fire blah blah blah) but I did attempt both The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring and ditched both of them halfway through.

Aside from that, that was pretty darn badass, hadn't heard Alison Krauss belt that one out before. That gal's got some pipes, thats for sure.

Shocking!

Only the best filk music has an evil duckie plushie stalking the audience from behind a candelabra.

Filk has been around since before who knows. I've heard the entire misty mountain song set to a bunch of tunes. This one is too Elvish for my taste. It's better with a bunch of drunk hairy dudes attempting to sing the semi-official melody in four part harmony. Even better when a fight breaks out halfway through when one of them claims to know the "right words" and the other guys are all stupid pricks who can't remember crap. Good times, man. Good times.

They're an owlbear and murloc from World of Warcraft.
Tolkien was on the dev team for WoW, hence the stuffed tribute.

It's rare when you get a That Guy and a cavalcade of Fark One Uppers in the same thread. Kind of historic, really.

If all goes well we'll get a List Fails Without, too.

I know, I know, it's not technically a list, but I'm sure there's a missing verse or rhyme somewhere that this song can be declared a failure for not having.

This also reminds me that I need to read The Hobbit to my kids before we go see the movie.

And yes, I will mangle the songs.

But I will mangle them in the best tradition of "goddamnit, these are important, and if that means meowling them out in quasi-emphatic tones, you'll farking listen and be happy about it!"
