I guess I didn't realize you could take Splenda orally. Maybe that's why I haven't lost any weight and also explains these candied stalagmites on my chair.

Diet drinks do at least cut some calories out of your diet. Some splenda in the coffee instead of sugar, etc. Just remember that fruit juice is full of that fructose everyone is hatin' on.

Color me shocked! It's like the land whales here at work that gorge themselves on fastfood and meeting leftovers and have a diet coke and then biatch about their diets not working.

As someone who's lost 20 pounds through dieting and lots of exercise I'm getting a kick...

Yup. Losing weight is 80 percent diet, 20 percent exercise. Fatties eating like fatties will remain fatties. It is known.

Ehhh, those percentages are variable. It's not a straight 80/20 or even 50/50. One effects the other. Eat lots of bad food and your energy level will fall, as will your body's ability to process properly. Do a lot of physical labor and it really won't matter what you eat, you'll stay reasonably trim (ask a farm hand). Finding the balance point is what matters most of all.

Also, stop eating all junk food. You get better energy and performance by eating fresh, lightly-processed foods (butchered and cooked steak is "lightly-processed", as is a salad). Buy decent bread, good meats, fresh vegetables and make yourself a healthy sammich! Fast/junk food is called "junk" for a reason.

Came here to say that I order a Diet soda when I get my supersized fast food, see it has already been covered.

Regardless of whether ordering the super-size (or any fast food at all) is a good idea, it is still the right choice to purchase the drink that has zero calories vs. the drink with 200+, especially given that studies show the calories in your drink have no effect on satiety and that drinking 300 calories isn't going to result in you eating 300 less.

Personally I find the people who order the smaller meal and then refill their sugar-filled coke 3 times to be far more amusing than those who know they want a big ass pile of delicious fries and get a diet. /shrug

My body thinks it's getting sugar, but I'm tricking it! Why do I suddenly crave a candy bar?

If I'm going to drink a soda, it is going to be a diet coke/pepsi/dr. pepper. It isn't because I'm on a diet, it's because it tastes better to me. It doesn't change the amount or type of food I eat. I don't know why people assume that the only reason a person would order a diet soda is so they can gorge themselves on junk food instead. That's just silly.

Splenda and most fake sugars give me headaches, dehydration (probably leading to those headaches), and a foul taste in the mouth.

When I eat out, I drink iced tea with a slice of lemon, no sugar. It tastes great and it's already flat so you can take your time drinking it. I've also taken to drinking Club Soda. It's fizzy and has no sweeteners in it. It's a great sugary soda replacement.

Maybe I've trained myself, but I've grown fond of the diet coke with splenda (yellow band at the top of can). It tastes better than normal diet coke, and normal coke (HFCS), but I don't have access to sugar coke for that test.

I rarely drink normal pop unless I'm not feeling good and I find some sprite in my fridge.

In other news, low-protein gruel doesn't wear down your resistance if you eat a whole month's supply. Jerk-ass.

This. Splenda is probably the most palatable of the lot, but I can still detect it almost instantly due to the horrible aftertaste. I'd much rather drink water or unsweetened tea than anything diet.

Bullshiat.

You could drink nothing but soda (diet or otherwise) and never die of dehydration. yes it's a bit of a diuretic, but it's still hydrating you overall. Perhaps you should drink enough water such that one piss moved ahead by half an hour doesn't rock your world.

I actually do get dehydrated constantly. I drink a huge amount all day long every day. It's a problem related to my glands. Ever hear of Addisonian Crisis?

Agreed! I just wish I could find the stuff at more places. Only one of the many grocery stores around me carry it, and they restock it intermittently. I'm often forced to find a substitute... Usually end up with something like Coke Zero, but I *DESPISE* the taste of aspartame, so it's an altogether unpleasant experience.

I reduced food intake a little bit (not much), didn't really increase exercise (other than to use it as an offset to big desserts; ie, if I want a 500-calorie dessert, fine, as long as I offset it with a 500-calorie-equivelant workout) - just changed to 100%-very-low-calorie drinks (tea with splenda, diet coke with splenda, and lots of ice water). May 2011 I weighed 260. Right now I weigh 190.
Caloric intake reduction can go a looooong way - and if you tend to just about always be sipping on a soda, it's definitely a low-hanging fruit.

and I couldn't help but LOL @ "However, the research was inconclusive when it came to determining if the non-nutritive sweeteners could reduce carbohydrate intake, calorie intake or body weight."

I know what they mean, they're measuring human behavior patterns and all... But it comes across sounding like "Not sure that reducing calorie intake can conclusively reduce calorie intake, though..."

So you have a rare condition that affects 1 in 100,000 people. Fair enough. Perhaps you could have mentioned that instead of blaming your symptoms on splenda?

Splenda can cause the headaches in those who have an allergy to artificial sweeteners as well. You can look it up if you don't believe me. Not to mention that some of them like aspartame can cause all sorts of other issues like cancer.

Thanks for clarification. I'll stick with my original tact of mocking your silliness. I'm going to guess you have issues with MSG and food coloring as well?
