I predict this will end well.

Didn't they do this in "Mimic"? You saw how that went.

Using this technique, we reduced the mosquito population by 90 percent in six months

They need to release these everywhere. Mosquitoes feed on me like fat people feed on McDonald's food. I went to Hawaii and was eaten alive. Then I went to Alaska and the mosquitoes are so big there that two tried to carry me off.

Bontesla: I predict this will end well.

It actually is going quite well.

The non-deadly disease carriers fill the gap left by the deadly ones.

Right. Because THAT'S specifically and exactly what's going to happen.

This is the first widespread release. What happened in the smaller scale releases is other mosquito species that compete with the dengue carriers filled the void because there was less competition for resources.

This one is actually pretty nifty, because the males breed with the females, and the females produce offspring that never reach maturity.

Now, they might end up creating a breed of mosquito that doesn't mate with the GM mosquito, but that is a small risk.

One of these things is not like the other...

Tiger muskies are a natural hybrid as well as bred for stocking purposes.

Killer bees were hybridized through breeding.

Whatever happened with them anyways? They were the scare du jour for so long, now, very little is heard.

Of course this just means that the bacterium that causes dengue (its not the mosquito that causes it) will seek new hosts. Bacteria are really good at this sort of thing.

Come to Minnesota, particularly the BWCA - suckers are like 747s up there.

Shh.. Don't give Syfy a new idea for a movie. Just what we need. A movie about a swarm of genetically modified mosquitoes flying around and killing people and drinking their blood.

Is this one of those things that ends with the gorillas freezing to death come winter?

Mosquitoes to spiders. Spiders to birds. Birds to cars. Cats to dogs. dogs to gorillas. Gorillas freeze to death in the winter.

Does that work?

Killer Bees, AKA "Africanized Honey Bees"

Ever hear of the phrase "Africa Hot?"

// they came north, then the more moderate climates basically stalled their migration.

www.ars.usda.gov

// plus, people tend to not mess with bees, Africanized or otherwise.

I heard Rush Limbaugh on the radio at work talking about how Bill Gates had Monsanto create these to infect people with new types of 'gut germs' because it will change what chemicals your body absorbs from food and change the chemistry of your brain.

/and people around me believed it word for word
