Better particle physics through marketing?

Enough about the labels already, what's really awesome is the thing that hides behind them.

Also, Bose sucks.

It's a good thing he wasn't into medical science, they would have used his first name just to make it more difficult for everyone.

So, India is trying to attention whore? Besides its not like this is the only Boson. Let Higgs have his day.

Clearly you've never heard a Bose system using Monster cables.

Frankly, the racism in science that characterized the twentieth century has not abated. The truth is that white men continue to get credit they do not deserve for major discoveries and leadership positions in media releases and mass media because racism is institutional.

Let me get this straight... Bose categorized a set of particles, which are called Bosons. This includes gravitons and various other particles. Higgs is the one who actually theorized this particular particle which is discovered which just happens to be part of the larger class that Bose categorized?

He had nothing to do with this particle really. Feigned outrage over nothing. It's like trying to give credit to someone who came up with the taxonomical system for work discovering a specific new species.

That being said, I'm just going off the article. I know nothing whatsoever about physics, so those with knowledge feel free to correct me.

In addition the boson should be pronounced "boshwon" because Satyendranath Bose's last name is pronounced /boʃu/.

I dunno, been through my fair share of satellites for my desktop and the $250 set from Bose is the best I've owned so far.

There's Bose-Einstein condensates. Bose wrote to Einstein about a a certain quantum phenomena, Einstein elaborated on it a bit and largely made the theory what it remained. Bose wanted it to be called an Einstein condensate, Einstein wanted it to be called a Bose condensate, physicists decided they both get credit.

From what I gathered after a brief Wikipedia read-through, Bose didn't even discover the Boson, it was just named in his honor. So either the Indians are upset over nothing or the AP just wanted a quick and easy story.

It's even stupider than that they're complaining that a guy who has a class of fundemental particles, a state of matter, and at least one equation every freshmen studying hard science commits to memory for the rest of their lives isn't getting enough recognition from the scientific community. This is almost as stupid as the shiat that comes out of Pakistan. The guy is effectively immortal. His name will outlast his nation. His contributions will only die with humanity; maybe not even then.

Shut the fark up, India.

I know, and why aren't they crediting Newton, who came up with the idea that mass and weight were not the same quantity in the first place? Or Ug the Neanderthal and his seminal tract "Ug see thing fall down, thing not fall up. Bird have flap to go up." which I think we can really all agree is at the root of this discovery.
