Sup everyone. My friend Rob Reid's book launches this week and he's having a giveaway specific to Farkers only. He's a regular reader and semi-regular poster around here

I've personally read the book and it's amazingly damn good. In the interest of full disclosure, I hate science fiction. It's usually lazily written and depends too much on a passionate fanbase to get past bad writing. Year Zero doesn't have any of those problems, it's excellent. If you buy it, read it, and don't like it I'll personally buy you a beer (and make Rob buy you one too) so it's a no-lose proposition

He's come up with a great little quiz for folks interested in a free copy of the book, check it out. I personally had no idea Adam Savage was so musically talented

I'll wait until Oprah reviews it.

jk.

I don't know any of these pop music answers. Where's Teh English Major? I'd totally cheat off his work.

I think Cera had great acting chops in the movie but Jack Black came up lame. Might be a good book though.

"YOU WILL NOT BE SPAMMED."

This suggests that you will almost certainly be spammed.

2012-07-10 01:36:06 PM
Awwww, its not that Year Zero.

I miss you, Trent Reznor.

Meh, I'll wait for the movie.

8. According to a canonical Rolling Stones hit, what's a gas gas gas?

a) A cross-fire hurricane
b) Kelly Clarkson's Life
c) Stephen King'shiat horror novel "It"
d) Some other "It," but not a Stephen King novel
e) Some other Stephen King novel, but not "It"

A) would be the only fitting answer but Jumpin Jack Flash is a gas, not the hurricane he was born in.

Yeah "Science fiction for people who don't like science fiction" always strikes me as a "Harry Potter for Conservative Families" or "Rock and Roll for Christians" kind of deal. Good luck, though. Maybe I'll check it out sometime anyway.

Wan anyone else here involved when we were working on the YZ graphic novel over on EchoingTheSound in the hopes that it would become a series or movie?

I read it and didn't like it. You owe me two beers. Lemme know when you're in NYC and we can settle up.

Yeah. As someone who likes science fiction, this isn't a great endorsement:

Drew: I've personally read the book and it's amazingly damn good. In the interest of full disclosure, I hate science fiction.

Question 7 needs some interpretation:

7. What rock 'n' roll classic is about murdering one's girlfriend?

a) Hey Joe - Jimi Hendrix - Actually about murdering one's wife
b) Down By the River - Neil Young - Correct answer
c) I Used to Love Her - Guns 'n' Roses - Actually about Axl's dog, not wife or girlfriend, although it has been mistaken as such
d) All of the Above

So, Rob is _probably_ looking for D, but it's not quite accurate.

Who's Rob Reid?

2012-07-10 02:09:33 PM
Meh, rather than mess with this quiz for one of FIVE copies, I might as well just go buy it on Kindle...

Holy shiat, it's $12.99 on Kindle? I'll just wait for the hardback to penny-out and buy it for $4.

Or wait until a copy passes before me at a thrift store. Since selling books from thrift stores online is how I currently make a living.

2012-07-10 02:10:53 PM
Isn't the answer always "C"?

Spanky, you jerk, I had forgotten the hottness of Bailey only to have you remind me of her immensely unobtainable hottness. You jerk! The pain!!!!!

/ holy crap I had a total thing for her when WKRP was actually on the air -- and we shall never see that show again.

// Stupid trivia -- Jan Smithers was married to farkin' whats-his-name that ended up with Barbara Streisand, that Brolin fella. Talk about trading down in looks but up in wealth.

This actually looks like a book I'd be interested in and since I'm a fan of giving authors money, I'm not even going to enter the contest, I'm going to purchase the book when I get home. You may touch my hem.

I see...so if you had to, could you tell me what his 'epic' is about?

Oh, that's right, it isn't about anything. Unless you found a hidden story somewhere in that plodding soap opea.

2012-07-10 02:18:32 PM
Taking the underlying message of the book to heart, I'll wait for it to be available on Pirate Bay.

Or depends on drunk people who pay $5 a month to get passed even worse writing.
