He's taking Phelps to Tyler Clary's House of Pain

Way to jinx yourself, kid.

From what little swimming news I've heard, Phelps has been training seriously again for about a year and should be ready to go for London.

I'm afraid the Phelps will be quite operational when your friends arrive.

Michael Phelps is one of those guys I totally get. Dude worked his ass off for years, basically hit his peak in 08, had a couple of off years when he wanted to enjoy life outside of sport, and then came back. There are plenty of examples in athletics, Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods come to mind. Andre Agassi said he absolutely hated tennis.

Is Michael the same as he was? Probably not, he's seemed just not quite as good as he was when he was blowing out the competition. But the sport is forgiving, and he's still VERY good. And he worked his ass off. Maybe he is a freak of nature, but he didn't get to the Olympics by not working at it.

Tyler Clary should just STFU. Sometimes you don't have what it takes to be an Olympic athlete. Hey he works hard, good for him. But disparaging another guy without any idea what the sport takes out of you over a period of 10 or 15 years is ridiculous.

Frankly I'd love to see ol' Bong-hit Phelps win a couple more medals, then go home and smoke up and play xbox for the rest of his life. Live the farkin dream, dude.

Pssshhh, Phelps could still beat him with both hands tied behind his back eyes bloodshot.

I don't understand how Clary or anyone else gets off talking about what Phelps should do. He wasn't born or bred to push himself any harder than he wants to. If he uses his talent to only get 14 gold medals instead of more, who is Clary or anyone else to judge him for it?

2012-07-10 05:23:00 PM
Until today, I don't think there was even a single world-caliber swimmer that I actively disliked and thought was an awful human being.

2012-07-10 05:25:56 PM
Clary is going to be awfully slow when that diaper he's wearing fills with water. What an asshole.

2012-07-10 05:26:09 PM
Is Clary really going with the "if you were any good you'd kick my ass even harder" argument that I use to talk shiat when I lose in League of Legends?

That is awesome.

/he's retarded

That's the best part. If anything this will fan the flames for Phelps to kick his ass even more, just to put Clary in his place.

This kid deserves to get boo'ed whenever he steps in front of the cameras just for being a smarmy douche.

Also, all that really matters in his sport is the Olympics. So yeah, you have part of 4 years to chill out, smoke up, and impress the ladies with your 8 friggin gold medals.

What you think you sound like:
Phelps you are not training as hard as you can at every waking minute of the day. How will you ever reach the Summit again? I know you were there before but getting there isn't a guarantee. It takes hard work and dedication.

What you sound like:
hey that Phelps guy doesn't train like I do therefore he's an idiot. everyone should train like me cuz I have a gold medal from teh swim meet at my local community center pool that's actually chocolate and it melted and everyone thinks I'm pathetic for holding on to it but that means I'm a champion and everyone should listen to me cuz I'm really experienced at the Olympics even though I've never been before but I competed in college and that is the highest possible competition ever and you people just don't get it cuz you don't swim.

Clary has been swimming for a long time. His earliest international swim meet was in 2006 in Brazil. He doesn't have the Olympic-caliber experience that Phelps does for sure, but he's still put in a lot of time and traveled a lot of places.

His mom is probably really proud. His coach, too. But nobody else had ever heard of him until he spoke ill of a guy who's a gazillion times better than he'll ever be in his dreams, and now even the few people in his own country who will hear of this are rooting for him to snap an ankle off the starting block.

This guy (already forgot his name), not a winner.

He feels Phelps' success makes a mockery of his effort. This is the kind of guy that accuses the smart kids of cheating because he studied his ass off and still got a B.

FTFY and his 2 bronze medals too.

If the swimming superpower of France got him motivated last time, what's to prevent him from collecting 7 more medals with this trash talk?

Exactly. He's just a jealous prick who'll probably be lucky to even make a final in London, let alone medal.

I had heard of him before now, but I follow swimming all year round thanks to my 9-year indoctrination into the sport, so I'm definitely not the best person to ask about these kinds of things.

BTW Phelps needs three medals to become the most decorated Olympic athlete ever. And he already has the record for most gold medals by an Olympian. There is no way to talk smack about him without looking like an utter twat.

Nah, he'll definitely final in both of his individual events. His times were 5th in the world this year for the 200 fly and 3rd in the world for the 200 back (3rd for the 400 IM too, but nuts to having Phelps and Lochte in that race with the top two times in the world).

Oh, I know... I was offhandedly referring to his record 8 in 2008 that made him a household name for quite some time.

Fair enough. I'm like most people- I pay attention to swimming for a week or 2 every 4 years and that's it.

Yet, I'll be rooting against an American in the Olympics for the 1st time ever because this guy is just a whiny bitach.

/Though I'll be rooting for Kobe Bryant and LeBron James to both tear ACLs in the Gold Medal Final

Really dumb analogy since I'd wager most people had never heard of most of these guys (including Phelps) until they started winning medals. I don't disagree that this guy made a bonehead statement, but don't add your own.

The difference is that Phelps' coach knows how hard Phelps should be working because he's seen him work that hard.

Meanwhile, this guy finished 1.5 seconds back of Phelps in a race during the Olympic Trials. And the guy was still 2nd.

It's obvious that Phelps is at a different level than everyone else in US Swimming except for Ryan Lochte. This dope (as good as he may be) isn't near their level.

Phelps, whether he wins any medals or not, retires a hero. Extremely professional, good to fans, and to his combatants? He's been sincerely appreciative whether he wins or loses. He is a credit to his sport, and to sportsmanship. Hell, he even smoked some dope with fans! He's one hell of a guy.

Tyler? I don't care how many medals he wins. How many times he beats Phelps. How many triumphs he will get in h is life. He will always still be the doucebag that insulted Phelps. And, if his sportsmanship with Phelps is any indication, he will likely be gang-raped with the handle of a broomstick by his fellow swimmers. You know, the same way Dahmer died.

You know who else had bad sportsmanship, Tyler? I'll give you a hint, he had a skinny mustache and hated jews in the 1940's.

\\ Godwin'd myself when I saw the post was going overboard.
