But she could have more easily killed the fox with her grammar.

Except for the rabies, a rabid fox isn't very dangerous. They top out in spaniel territory. You can punt one straight to the next life.

I'd cocker spaniel, if you know what I mean.

How dumb is this girl? Once the damn thing is lying on the ground bleeding, take the dog inside. Don't go get a knife to try to finish the job yourself.

Unfortunately if the dog isn't properly vaccinated, it's going to die. No cure for rabies far as i know, the girl is going to get some pretty nasty shots also, not to mention that they should probably do something in the yard to stop possible contamination.

Link Rabies

Treatment

There is no treatment. Once the disease develops in humans, death is almost certain. Only a handful of people have survived rabies after extremely intensive medical care. There have been several reported cases of dogs surviving the infection, but they are very rare.

Pet exposure

Any pet who is bitten or scratched by either a wild, carnivorous mammal or a bat that is not available for testing should be considered as having been exposed to rabies. Public health officials recommend that unvaccinated dogs, cats, and ferrets exposed to a rabid animal should be euthanized immediately. If the owner is unwilling to have this done, the animal should be placed in strict isolation for 6 months and vaccinated 1 month before being released. Animals with expired vaccinations need to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Dogs and cats that are currently vaccinated are kept under observation for 45 days.

Link From pet edu

Rabies is stupidly contagious and almost always lethal unless treated immediately.

This is about ten miles from where I live. If you see a fox around these parts and it isn't running away from you, you shoot it because it has lost the fear of human beings and is up to no good. They are way too smart to ignore. We have had steady problem with rabies around here for the past five years or so, most of it being raccoons and foxes.
These folks should have known better.

They showed a picture of a gray fox. Does anyone know if these are the kind that generally get rabies in that area? I'd heard red foxes don't spread it well to the gray because the grey ones just climb trees when they encounter the other.

I'll go out on the limb and go for nose for $200, Alex.

A fox uses this to sniff.

What is a nose?

"and I seen" and "I don't care what would have happened to me, as long as he was safe." said the 16 year old mother........great English, and doesn't care what happened to her as long as her daughters dog was safe......I guess the dog is pretty awesome if it has the ability to take care of a human baby if the mother had died.

fta - That rabies alert is still in effect in Gulf county. Health officials are urging you to stay away from wild animals.

After the alert has been lifted people may once again begin approaching wild animals in their usual manor.
