It is scary to see his age and realize I am as old as he is.

I barely trust me to find the local polling place let alone run for town council. The concept of people my age running the government of any significant population is odd to contemplate.

Yes I know the age of our president.

Faaaaaark. It's such a farking terrible place to live, the Cuban government had to make it illegal to leave lest all of their best an brightest hit the road.

Hell, they'll use lethal force to prevent it.

Hardly. Cuba created the worlds first anti-cancer vaccine, and is intensely focused on curing people, while the US medical industry cares only about treatments, because there's no money to be made in cures. It'll cost you upwards of 50k a year to 'treat' your cancer with drugs after diagnoses in the US, and the only chance of being cured comes from chemo, which is another giant moneymaking industry, and has an abysmal 5 year survival rate. Often causing more cancers to grow even if it kills the initial cancer.

Say what you will about socialism, but the medical industry is one place where profits should never be a factor.

If I were running against Hugo I'd probably get a bullet to the head after asking the crowd "Why did our president have to go to CUBA for cancer treatment? Because we, my fellow citizens, have access to only INFERIOR medicine compared to CUBA"

I know it's a stretch of the rhetoric and that Cuba has relied on medical tourism for some of it's income over the years, but it would play well.

Don't have time for that, and i doubt Cuban medical journals make the rounds in the US anyway, but consider this: It costs mere cents to produce these anti-cancer pills in the US, yet they sell them for hundreds of dollars to people who believe they need them to live. What do you think their motivations are? Helping people, or making money?

J. Frank Parnell: Don't have time for that, and i doubt Cuban medical journals make the rounds in the US anyway

So, you don't have any proof of the claims you're making, we should just take them at face value and believe what you say? That seems to be a running theme with you. Not only do you have a poor grasp of what cancer is, or why five year survival is the general measure of efficacy, you honestly believe that there is no money in a cure for cancer?

You know, I'm good with this logic, Parnell. Hey, I have this magical anti-cancer drug that's 100% effective and side effect free. All I have to do is piss in this bottle, and you drink it. That's right, my pee cures cancer. No, I don't have any proof of this, that's for you to decide and look for. I'm not going to do your work for you. Now fork over your five hundred dollars, or die from cancer. After all, it's your fault you got cancer. Your fault if you die from it because you don't take my magic pee.

J. Frank Parnell: but consider this: It costs mere cents to produce these anti-cancer pills in the US, yet they sell them for hundreds of dollars to people who believe they need them to live.

Actually, to manufacture one dose of modern chemotherapy drugs costs thousands of dollars, and the costs of research and development, and testing of those drugs are recouped over decades of sale. In fact, the cost of drug research in this area is often subsidized by the Government because there's little money to be had compared with the massive investment necessary for them.

Turning that around, you just described the Alternative Medicine industry. Burzynski, for example, sells his anti-neoplastons for hundreds of thousands of dollars to cancer patients, none of which are alive after five years when compared with chemotherapy.

J. Frank Parnell:
What do you think their motivations are? Helping people, or making money?

Yep. The Alternative Medicine industry would never make false claims. Never.

Actually, it worked just fine, so long as the Soviet Union was propping them up with aid and buying all their sugar at above market rates. It was only after 1991 that things started to go pear-shaped for them.

... And what, precisely, does your attack on the healthcare industry have to do with your initial claim?

Given that you can't even back up your first idiotic claim, I don't think responding to your second one is a good use of time.

You have to go deeper into the Derp Levels. Right now, you're in one derp level. What we have to do is fold over that derp level, and travel into the next derp level. That way, the misleading projections won't steal your IQ points!

Since you seem to be speaking as if all cancers are the same and as if the new experimental lung cancer vaccine is the only cancer preventing vaccine out there, I'll take your argument with a grain of salt.

It costs only a few bucks to drive a Veyron a few miles. Why's it cost so much though? Do you know how much is spent before a single pill is made?

Yes, yes, research costs. But all the research is being done into 'treatments' instead of cures. And we're not talking about pharm corporations that are just barely surviving, we're talking about corporations clearing billions of dollars each quarter, telling people they want to fight cancer, yet when they find a new treatment drug they expect victims to sell their house to pay for it. You don't need me to tell you that's a little farked up.
