Because in 2010 he was saying it about letting the Bush cuts expire for the middle class expire, not the cut for the wealthy which is the same position he has now?

Straw men. How do they work?

And the GOP forced him into tax cuts for the wealthy, which is exactly what Carney says in the link. O'Donnell is trying mightily to maneuver Carney into saying something he's not saying and subby considers it a victory that after all that back and forth, Carney hasn't memorized every bit of data he works with.

I saw Will Cain asking that question this morning subby and while he may be the public face of the famous gay men's site The Blaze it is rude to refer to him as "reporterette".

Also, when Obama said that we were still all operating on the assumption that the GOP wasn't intentionally trying to destroy the economy. Now that they've made it obvious everyone, Obama included, says fark em!

"We need to have less laws"

Ok, well there's this law that cuts taxes for the extremely well compensated. It was passed with a sunset built in so that it didn't have to be paid for. Doing nothing will make that law disappear.

"HARUMPH GET WORKING ON KEEPING IT MORE LAWS MORE LAWS"

In 2012, the economy blows. Might as well tax the rich.

Seriously though, the economy did much better when the rich were taxed at a sufficiently high rate that they actually had to create jobs in order to stay rich.

Not to mention if you are deeply in debt and spending more than you are taking in, you need to raise the money from somewhere and the poor are not really a good source of funds.

//Michelle Bachmann; the poor should have to pay a tax, even if it is just $10 they need to contribute. Divide the debt by 10 and calc out that effect...

Call me Ishmael.

On the second day, a sail drew near, nearer, and picked me up at last. It was the devious-cruising Rachel, that in her retracing search after her missing children, only found another orphan.

*sigh*

Norah O'Donnell repeats "Y U raise taxes on MC?!11!?" GOP derp question to Carney.

Carney answers that and says he'll get back with more information later when asked how to reconcile the RW talking point "a million businesses will be affected" with the Dem TP "97% of small businesses would be unaffected" .

Free-con freaks out and goes Ha! GOTCHA!

RW trolls applaud.

I used to feel that way until the smart Republicans decided to let the crazies run the show. I'll actually be voting against a Republican gubernatorial candidate I very much respect and admire this fall because the NC legislature is full of batshiat crazies and I can't trust him to keep them in line. I'll be punching straight ticket this fall for the first time in my life. God help us.

Obama forced them to ask disingenuous questions by remaining consistent on an issue. If he had the good grace to change his stance every 20 minutes, they'd be able to catch him in actual contradictions. Saul Alinsky. Impeach.

Shouldn't Carney be able to back up the 97% claim of the President without having to do research after the news conference? He is the President's spokesman.

What's different? We were in a recession in 2010, for one, and I don't know if it's the same speech the writer is quoting from (and I'm not giving them page views) Obama said that raising taxes in a recession would be a blow to the economy.

Yes, he should have. However, the fact that he didn't proves nothing except that Jay Carney forgot where a claim that is now 2 years old originally came from. The claim is backed up here. Whitehouse.gov also cites a report by the Tax Policy Center, but I didn't feel like finding it.

Even John Boehner agrees that the claim is true.

I'd rather Carney admit he doesn't have all the facts than pull them from his ass like all of Dumbya's various PR shills seemed to do.

A thought experiment --

Let's say you're running the United States federal government, and you've decided to forego US$10,000,000,000 of revenue with the aim of stimulating the economy. (Furthermore for the sake of simplicity let's say you live in a universe where everything happens in nice round numbers and there's an aversion to 'why not both?' solutions to problems.)

One of your advisers says "There are exactly 20 million households with yearly income in the mid 5 figures. Let's give each of them a $500 tax credit."

Another adviser says "No, no, no, those 5,000 households with 7 figure incomes are responsible for such a huge sum of our total tax receipts, and nobody thanks them for all they do. We ought to give each of them a $2,000,000 credit."

If the whole point is to circulate more cash in the economy, who do you listen to? 20,000,000 households get to keep a little extra, enough to buy some clothes/shoes/iPod/get the car fixed/whatever? Or let 5,000 people in the professional investor class keep a big chunk that they can speculate with in a hedge fund?

What do?

2012-07-10 01:14:59 PM
The economy is growing slower now than it was then, so percentage-wise it is not as big of a deal.

I had heard it said in the Army that such and such a man spoke like a man with a paper rectum...
Now, hoping to be hearty and persuasive, he said tinny things to me, things like, "I like the cut of your jib!" and "I want to talk cold turkey to you, man to man!"
And he took me down to what he called his "den" in order that we might, ". . . call a spade a spade, and let the chips fall where they may."

One MSMer finally has the guts to start battering a Democratic press secretary the way they're accustomed to working over Republican ones and the alien experience has the left-tilting lugnuts having to retire to their fainting couches. It's going to get worse as the first Friday of every month brings fresh news of employment hell. Welcome to what happened to Jimmy Carter at the end of his disastrous reign.

The president's position has always been that we should permanently extend the tax cuts for middle-class Americans and that we should no longer extend the tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans.

There really isn't anything to say after that.

The media is already turning into the fark politics tab, this electon is gonna be a good one.

2012-07-10 02:07:11 PM
The reporter came off as having a pretty shiatty attitude. How did she not get what the guy was saying? I'm not even a journalist and I can figure it out.

The guy was saying that the President supports extending all tax cuts for the poor and middle class, as well as for 97% of small businesses and entrepreneurs.

Not that hard to figure out. Do they have something in the drinking water over there?

Main difference: 2010 was 2 years ago.

What a dumb b*tch.

2012-07-10 02:16:46 PM
Also, do these dumb assholes realize that he's extending tax cuts for EVERYONE? I.E., even the uber-wealthy would have tax cuts on their first $250,000 of income extended.

Obama is NOT excluding the 1% from the tax cut.
