How is Joe Biden not on there?

2012-07-10 12:47:58 PM
Adm. James Stockdale was a great American who went through things that would destroy most people. It's a shame he has to be remembered for that debate and for Phil Hartman's impersonation.

2012-07-10 12:48:08 PM
Hannibal Hamlin has to rank up there, what with whole Joseph Hooker debacle. Lincoln dropped him like a bad habit.

Because Biden was an excellent choice for VP.

Quayle was the worst, but you lost IQ points simply listening to Sarah Palin talk.

Biden is a bland, rust-belt policy wonk whose verbal mishaps aren't bad enough to overshadow his main purpose, which is to make blue collar whites more comfortable voting for a black guy. He's a perfectly adequate running mate.

2012-07-10 01:31:49 PM
I'd like to say Aaron Burr is easily the worst given that he actually killed a man as a result of his performance, but I have to put Calhoun number one solely because he developed a nonsense legal theory that still somehow survives today in the minds of lunatics and militia members.

2012-07-10 01:31:59 PM
Love that Calhoun pic.

I wanna go back in time and party with that guy.

2012-07-10 01:33:38 PM
Joe Biden is a kindly old man, which is a pleasant change from that evil farking bastard Cheney.

I love the SNL skit that has Dan Quayle (played by, I think, Michael J. Fox) at Bush's state of the union and he keeps standing up and clapping at the wrong times. Really simple and really funny.

csb- I used to live across the street from the grave of VP Charles Curtis -csb

2012-07-10 01:34:23 PM
How about Rufus King? He died before he even got to Washington to be sworn in.

2012-07-10 01:34:43 PM
I think Brad Pitt's Mom should be Mitt's running mate.

Either subby didn't read to the end or he thinks one of these people doesn't belong on the list.

His opening line to America was, "Who am I? Why am I here?". It went downhill from there. He may well have been a great American, but he was a lousy orator and uninspiring politician.

His running mate got elected. How is Spiro Agnew on the list. He and Nixon slammed McGovern into the ground. He later turned out to be a scumbag but was not a drain on the campaign.

Yes, like the bus she used to ride to school Sarah also made the short list.

The list should also include Richard Nixon.

This is a good point. Agnew was an awful VP and person, but he was a great running mate during the elections.

Did you RTFA? He didn't even know he was going to be in the debate until a week beforehand, and the informal setting meant he had to be prepared for basically any possible topic that could come up. Even the best orators and politicians we've ever had would have performed miserably in that situation.

...and Dick Cheney is not. Cheney headed up Bush's VP selection committee after he told George that he wouldn't put himself on the list, held secret meeting with oil/energy company execs, claimed to be under both the Executive and Legislative branches, shot a man, had questionable relationships with defense contractors (and perhaps used his office to enrich them), and was generally an asshole of every kind.

But his daughter's a lesbian and he's voiced (in muted tones, right up until he left the Naval Observatory) support of treating gay folks like people. So he's not 100% evil like that utter asshole Agnew, I guess?

i dont like it when people bash Mondale/Ferraro for the sake of it. I mean, look at the presidental election results map of 1984. God and jesus could've run on the democrat ticket and they wouldn't have won either.

Since I was 9 when he ran for VP and not much of a history buff, I'd never heard of him and hit up the Wikipedia...

Mainly because any time there was a problem, his first reaction was to call Batman.

But partly because his name is an anagram for "grow a penis."

Yeah, he really got screwed by the situation with Perot kind of dropping out of the race but then returning. He deserved better, for sure.

God and jesus could've run on the democratic ticket and they wouldn't have won either.

To be fair, Jesus as represented in the Gospels would lose to the GOP this year too. He'd be scorned as a commie socialist Marxist fascist who wants to take away our freedoms.

How so? You may hate the man but I cannot think of one issue that he did not squash that might have been a drag on Ike.
