. . . . .why?

"Slash is widely considered one of the greatest rock guitarists of all time"

By people who don't listen to very many rock guitarists.

I fund it funny that Axl reacts to hearing about Slash like the Three Stooges react to hearing about Niagra Falls.

That's what I've heard, too. I've never been there, but it seems that the "walk of fame" is so vast and indiscriminate that we Farkers could install a star for someone overnight and no one would be the wiser.

I heard they were running out of star space so they had to consolidate new celebrities. Slash is actually receiving his with Gordon Sumner. It says SLING.

You're welcome.

He's created absolutely fantastic tunes over the years. Making music isn't just about technical skills.

He is really mainstream and gets a lot of publicity within the industry. Have an awards show and need a famous guitarist to walk on stage during a pop song to give your lip singing artist an edge? Call Slash. Need a famous guitarist to do a guest spot on an album to add some street cred to the shiatty new band your label just signed? Call Slash. Need someone who looks like a cartoon caricature to promote your new equipment? Call Slash

He's also been a REAL cartoon in the video for "Kick It Up a Notch" from the Phineas and Ferb movie.

Yeah, not really a big deal, since you aren't "chosen" or "honored" with the star, no matter what the press releases say, you spend somethin glike $10 or $15 thousand dollars for the "privilege'.

Sort of. It's run by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, and while there is a fairly extensive and competitive nominating process, there is a cost to cover the actual star and the ceremony itself but it's not quite a simple 'oh anyone can get one of those' transaction.

Nicely said. His is very good at writing/playing melodic lead guitar lines that complement songs other people write. You have to be proficient to write/play some of the things he has recorded. However, he is not a technical virtuoso, as many of his live performances demonstrate. Even given that he was drunk/high whatever a lot in the old days, check out his acoustic set performing GNR songs with his new singer. Flubby flub flub.

Why am I not surprised in the least that someone from Fark was involved in pumping Rush's tires. I'm pretty sure Rush is the official band of Fark...or was, when there was a music tab. Cool that you were able to help put something like that together.
/Slash is the official guitarist of stupid boogerheads

AliceBToklasLives: Wait I thought Slash was an urban legend?

Not an urban legend, but it's just a bunch of different dudes in outfits. Usually someone's dad will dress up as Slash to play at birthday parties.

Sorry if I've ruined the magic of Slash for people, but your parents should have told you when you were kids.

2012-07-10 04:31:40 PM
My parents dressed up as Slash when I was a kid, and it just made my childhood that much more magical. I'll do the same thing with my kids. It's not lying to them, it's being a part of their childhood. Children need the fantasy of Slash, and they also need to have that moment when they find out he's not real. It's part of growing up, a rite of passage. To deny that to a child is to deny them childhood, and too many kids are having to grow up too fast.

Let your kids be kids. Let them have Slash.

Need someone to play the national anthem? Call Slash. Need someone to blow the roof off the joint? Call Slash. etc etc

Yeah, and it screwed up my commute this morning. Never liked GnR and didn't need to be late.

Need to beat your wife at putt putt because you're too competitive and she is stupid good for no reason? Call Slash

Eh, I think the urinal at the Whiskey probably is more prestigious.

Here's the 2013 list of Walk of Fame honorees.

MOTION PICTURES:
Rick Baker, Javier Bardem, Viola Davis, James Franco, Ron Howard and Helen Mirren

TELEVISION:
Simon Baker, Bryan Cranston, Ellen DeGeneres, Jane Lynch, Katey Sagal and Matthew Perry

RECORDING:
The BackStreet Boys, Jennifer Hudson, Jane's Addiction, Janis Joplin (Posthumous), New Kids on the Block, Usher Raymond IV, Thalia and Luther Vandross (Posthumous)

LIVE THEATRE/PERFORMANCE:
Olympia Dukakis and Penn & Teller

RADIO:
Steve Harvey and "Shot Gun" Tom Kelly

Slash (2012 honoree) will soon be in very prestigious company with the Backstreet Boys, New Kids and Matthew Perry.

I swear, this guy has not changed his clothes in over 20 years. Gotta hand it to him though, he found a "rock star" look that works for him and he's stuck with it.

/don't wanna think about what the inside of that top hat smells like though

Anyone remember in the late 90's when he switched to a knit rasta-esque cap for a bit? I think it was afer GNR, before VR.
