Actually, when I first learned about insulin resistance brought about by the metabolic processes used to break down fructose in the liver, it wasn't very simple.

Hunger is the most powerful survival instinct. Sure you can starve yourself if you can function at your job through the misery, but it's much easier if you educate yourself enough to learn satiety triggers.

Lifting = build muscle which raises your metabolism indefinitely
Cardio = burn calories, which raises your metabolism for a couple hours

If you're trying to lose weight using cardio, you're wasting a lot of time. Do cardio to improve your cardiovascular efficiency, lift weights to look better and feel better.

CSS: I was raised by East Germans. They fed me East German food with guilt if you failed at "The Clean Plate Club". My family were dairy farmers, and even tho they left the farm in East Germany behind for jobs at Ford in Cleveland.. they fed me like I was working on that dairy farm. Farm hand portions.
Didn't want to eat your share? "What's the matter? You sick?" and "You must eat to be strong like bull!"

It took me my entire life to figure out nutrition, and because of that, have been over weight most of my life.
Just in the last 2 months have I figured it all out, and have lost 35lbs as a result. It took the stomach flu, followed by a 32 Day raw vegan diet to rewire the way my body wants food.

Now I'm eating "regular" meals, and the weight is still coming off. Slower, but happening.
Smaller portions. No bread. As little sugar as possible. Less white food, more green.

My problem was never fast food.

But yeah, you don't need a pill.. you just need a re-wire.

For the last three months I've been doing cardio + weight training 4 days per week. I spend two hours in the gym minimum each time. In two months I've lost ten pounds. This third month I've not only not lost weigt but have put more on. I'm also eating less than ever befor. It's depressing as hell. It's ten to seven and guess what? I'm off to the gym for another useless session. :(

Gunny beat me to it. Cocaine will either cause you to have a massive coronary/OD (Belushi) or have so much energy, that you'll desperately expend energy so you can sleep. Either way, obesity gets fixed.

You hit a plateau man. It happens, try not to get too worked up over it. Whatever you are doing, it worked. WorkED. As in you need to change up your schedule because your body is used to the 2 hour work sessions. I recently had to stop running as much (not all together) and switch to biking since i've been getting my general running ability up over the past 3 months.

I'd do something different and go super hard for a little less time. The increased intensity might help you break through that wall.

It's bizarre how our bodies work as hard as they do to maintain weight. At some point we might figure out a way to reset the "normal" status, but until then weight loss remains an incredibly difficult thing for most people.

In any case, I don't see this really going anywhere. Inducing an autoimmune response in a healthy individual is extremely risky. This isn't like a drug that you can stop taking, or a seasonal vaccine that requires renewal. If you induce a response against a protein that is always present, that immune response will always be on, and it won't shut off. In the long term, that could have very dangerous side effects, particularly if you get any sort of epitope spreading, i.e. the immune response spreads to other molecules the original protein binds to, such as receptors.

It's an interesting approach, don't get me wrong. I'm just highly skeptical.

As someone who has recently lost his 97th pound, I can tell you are wrong about weights being better than cardio for losing weight.

Weight lifting is an important part of a workout routine but the only way to truly burn fat is through cardio. Otherwise, you just wind up with big muscles under bigger rolls of fat. And those muscles under the fat, just makes you look fatter.

This is Mr. Namegoeshere's family's problem. They are still eating like they did when they were all farming without the help of modern equipment. They've always eaten like that, and no one in the family had weight issues until the past two generations. I wonder if they don't see the connection, or just don't care...

"Lifting weights" for 8 hours a day didn't prevent any of the blue collar auto workers I've known (non-union FWIW, if you're derpy enough to think that makes a difference) from being built like elephants. They're extremely strong, but definitely not magazine cover material. Then there are marathon runners and bodybuilders. Know what the difference is?

Diet. The runners and bodybuilders watch what they eat. The blue collar workers don't.

Exercise is exercise. If you run you'll be lean; if you lift you'll bulk up. But you're not gonna shed that spare tire eating hot dogs and beer.

When I was working out. I lost 40 lbs in about 3 months then I bottomed out and could not loose any more. I was weight lifting and came to a conclusion. I was not loosing any weight but I was gaining a noticable muscle mass. I went from 230 to 190 and stayed there till recently due to a medical issue I had. I have not gotten to work out since before the summer.

So I think the issue is that you hit your weight loss max and are now gaining muscle. Muscle weighs more then fat.

Mistake there, do not train for hours and hours on end. Try to keep things in the 45 to 1 hour time frame. More and you'll start producing a lot more cortisol which will drag down the levels of more beneficial hormones.

Also take your blasted measurements. A severely overweight person from work asked if he could train with me recently and while he gained .5 pounds since his last weekly round of bloodwork and bodycomp tests, he shed an amazing 8 pounds of body fat during those 7 days. You may not get lighter but if you're actually training your body will be transforming.

What routine are you doing for strength, and what intensity is your cardio at?

Sounds like he eats a lot of carbs and not enough protein. Or he takes a lot of stuff (not necessarily 'roids). Or he takes xxxx calorie shakes but lifting doesn't offset all of them.

I have 3 different workouts that I cycle through: two lift workouts (1 of which has 15 mins of cardio on the end of it) and one cycle workout. I try to maintain 18 mph for as long as I can. Usually it's between 30 and 45 minutes. 10 miles at the resistance I put the bike on burns 430 calories.

I usually take 1 day of rest per week, though that day off I spend at the beach wading in the shore pound fighting the current.

My diet is very simple. I HATE breakfast so I eat a protein bar. For lunch I have some kind of rice/vegetable/bean/nut dish. Like today I won't have any rice. I'll have carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, black beans and walnut. For dinner I'll go full carnivore except maybe some leftover lunch vegetables. If I want desert, I have bananas or strawberries. Once a week I will hit up a sushi place and go nuts. Otherwise...

This, also, a major problem with "fat" people is a shocking lack of core strength. After being stupidly obsessed about fixing my body for a couple years now in the way that only a video game nerd with a research scientist background with a strong base in physiology can be. The one major thing I am discovering is the main critical difference between athletic people and "fat" people is that athletic people use muscles to support their weight and fat people use their joints and skeleton. It's stupidly hard to convince people that they DO NOT stand or walk "like everyone else" because "everyone" does it however they feel the most comfortable, based on which muscles are strongest for them. If you don't ever build the "right" muscles, your metabolism, digestion, and daily metabolic rate won't EVER match the charts.

We're obsessed with being fat in this country. Fat is easy to get rid of. The problem this country has is excessive weakness.

A vaccine is any treatment that induces an immune response that wasn't there before. You can vaccinate against self-molecules; it's the strategy for a lot of conditions such as Parkinson's or Alzheimer's disease. Inducing the immune system to clear harmful molecules that aren't being removed is not an invalid strategy.
