2012-07-10 09:31:39 AM
Save for a couple of fun scenes it's overall a pretty bad/slip shod movie.

This follows news that the original is getting a 3D re-release next summer.

Of fark right off. At least Titanic had Kate Winslets tits.

Wait, really? Come on... I'm tempted to think this is satire, it sounds so ridiculous.

The original does not need a sequel. It was dumb enough the first time. Roland Emmerich is the Michael Bay of filmmakers who aren't Michael Bay.

shiat just got real

Christ that first one was bad. So much hype for a few 'splosions.

2012-07-10 09:39:46 AM
Umm... So how will the story go. I did like some of the questions asked in one of the original articles I read about this. Seeing that we barely survived and no major cities. How is the human race faring compared to our reality, Is the US different politically and socially due to the destruction of the government. It could be interesting if done right.

But what I am saying... This is Hollywood. Its going to be a war movie with lots of explosions and death. So... I'm in!

This time, it's independencer.

Not to mention it launched over a decades worth of Roland Emmerich "The world is ending" movies. Ooooh the White House is about to be destroyed. Yeah, been there, done that about five times already.

Yeah, the aliens should change it up a bit and go after Congress.

Preparing to hate ID2?

I was hating Independence Day 2 at about the point when Harvey Fierstein got blown up in the first one.

(I only had a mild distaste for ID2 when I saw the poster for the first movie.)

that's how hip I am

2012-07-10 09:44:56 AM
Independence Day 'ends' when the cities get blown up*. No need to see anything further. Much like how Titanic 'starts' when they hit the iceberg.

*Admittedly, that was awesome in the theater 16 years ago.

I just looked at Emmerich's wiki page. His next film is actually titled "White House Down".

I am only good with this if it is followed-up with a 'Mars Attacks 2'

I would rather a remake of the first with a longer disaster porn sequence, just to see how they'd do it with today's SFX tech, because in a sequel, what are they going to blow up? Cleveland? (though admittedly it'd be fun seeing some non-NYC, non-LA cities go kablooey in a movie for once.)

I can respect the first one for the sheer effort that went into the stuff blowing up, especially because IIRC the fighter jets and alien ships were the only full CG, and everything they blew up, the Empire State Building, the LA streets, was all pretty well-scaled models. I think the closest stylistically we've seen recently (in terms of the blast-wave-radiating-outward-ness) would be the end of Knowing, which was quite pretty even though the smoke CG was kind of fake-looking in a few places, mostly where the solar flare envelops, well, the ESB.

In the years before The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams had pitched a series to the BBC that was to be called "The Ends of the Earth". Each week it would have the Earth getting destroyed in in some different way after some bizarre chain of events (I think in the one episode they filmed, it started with a woman picking a flower off a tree). Graham Chapman was going to be one of the producers. The radio series (and first chapter of) THGttG came out of that project.

I'm sure I started with a point, here....

Oh, yeah! I think Emmerich just stole Adams' idea and made them into a series of movies.

This. I'm okay with a reboot in this case too, just to see this generation's crop of inane celebs lasered into skeletons too.

They can even get Jack Black to play the same role, and I like Jack Black.

The only thing good about Bad Boys 2 is that is was referenced in Hot Fuzz.

If Will Smith returns to crack funnies about pissed off vengeance-seeking aliens, I'm good with this.

Otherwise...meh.

/Especially since it's pretty clear Brent Spiner won't be reprising his role.

I'll be interested depending on the trailer.

Bad Boys 3
Men in Black 3
Independence Day 2

I'll take "Sequels that should have been made a decade ago during the period that Will Smith thought he was a serious actor, Alex".

Actually, I liked Independence Day. The first time I saw that shot of the White House blowing up was on a TV monitor at the strip club where I met my ex-girlfriend. Good times. And Bill Pullmanpaxton as the President putting on a flight suit did it before it was totally lame.

Mugato: Bill Pullmanpaxton as the President

Best Presidential movie speech ever.

Bad Boys 2 was fine. It was ridiculous and full of cliches but it never pretended to be anything other than a dumb action movie.

This movie will be lame as hell. And I will watch the shiat out of it.

/would also love to be in it
//call me, Roland

Looks like I'm in the minority here, but I'm okay with this. I'd love to see this structured as a full scale war on Earth between the remaining humans and the aliens that survived the crash. Though knowing Emmerich that would not have enough big explosions.

/of course what I'm really praying for is a sequel to The Fifth Element...

So does fis mean earflings'll have alien tech wif fem now fat we got giant saucers an' shiat to pick frough from fe first film?

mr lawson: Mugato: Bill Pullmanpaxton as the President

Best Presidential movie speech ever.

Best Presidential speech ever, period. fark Roosevelt. fark Lincoln, even if he did hunt vampires. Bill....Bill That Guy for President.

In fact, that should be the sequel. The retired President Bill Paxtonrussell is fishing and balls deep in some former interns with the pictures of Laura Roslin face down when the call comes in. The aliens are back and he's needed again. Ian Malcome's iPad can only do so much. And Randy Quaid is somehow resurrected. Although he may be hard to find. We might have to do that in post.

The Macbook virus that brought down the alien ships becomes self-aware and takes over all the computers on Earf and the remnants of the alien fleet. Aliens and humans must set aside their differences and work together to stop this new foe.

ID2: Mac Attack

1. Bad Boys 2 was actually A LOT better than the first one.

2. Independence Day was chock full of explosions, cliches and cheesy dialogue . . . and I loved every minute of it. The quintessential popcorn movie. Oh, and contrary to the inexplicably mistakenly belief of some, being labeled a popcorn movie is a good thing.

in 16 years I would hope they've managed to reverse engineer a hell of a lot of the alien tech, and have people on other planets besides earf

Yeah.. why not. Could be Korben Dallas and Leeloo's kid. which would make the kid the 6th element.

Related CSB time: Was at a movie watching the inane crap (word unscramble, et al) before the actual previews when a "Did You Know" slide was projected onto the screen: "Did You Know? Before he was an actor, Will Smith was a rapper?"

/The "Did you know" segment has become an acceptable reference when all things Will Smith are discussed

Why waste the effort hating the idea of Independence Day 2? Emmerich has been mouthing off about "how they've finally got it" now for about 12 of the last 16 years. Every few years, like some sort of retarded groundhog that makes progressively shiattier movies, Emmerich comes out of his hole, blathers about how he and Devlin are doing something with ID4, and then he scurries away to make some new unremarkable big budget movie.

Frankly, they need to leave it alone. The first one lives on as one of my childhood's great movies, even if it has aged somewhat terribly and was goofy to begin with. Now though? 16 years have passed, and you know that they are going to try to recapture the magic with newer, younger people. Maybe take a page from some of the Ghostbuster 3 scripts have the original cast along with a newer, hip group that saves the day. Maybe get that Justin Bieber kid, I hear he's popular with all the kids these days.

I remember watching this when it came out with a really square acquaintance. In the Bill Pullman flies kickass jet scene she was like "I wish we had a President like that!" This struck me as an very dumb thing to say, and then I realized that we were both graduating from the same university in a few months. Oy vey.

Bad Boys 2 was anjoyable for what it was, and I liked it better than the first one.

Independence Daywas the same, just a fun summer popcorn flick. It ended solidly and had no need for a sequel.

This whole thing smells like some writer penned a half decent alien attack move, and holywood studio exec wanted it attached to a 'known quantity' title. I'm not a fan of this practice. Let the script stand on its own, rather than trying to shoehorn it into an existing universe.

Who hates on "Bad Boys 2" ? As mismatched buddy cop movies went it was pretty good. The action scenes were all time greats. Martin Lawrence and Will Smiff are actually a funny couple.

I'm impressed that this 'Old and Busted' meme is still in use 10 years later. In fact, I think this is the only from that era of Fark history still in use, at least for headlines.

It's also entirely appropriate for this story as we're talking about sequels to a popular movie starring Will Smith. The "Old and Busted" line is taken from the one line from Men In Black II that everyone remembers and apparently fell head-over-heels in love with. Then again, Will Smith does have a way with the catchphrases even if the movie stinks. Naturally, if they make this movie, and Will Smith is in it, he'll have one line that will be instantly turned into a Fark headline meme for at least a decade no matter how good the movie actually is.

I have a love/hate for Independence Day: love it for the nostalgia it brings up for me since I lost my virginity just before going to see it in the theater; hate the fact that such a memorable and important event in my life is associated to such a shiatty movie. I'll still watch it if it's on, but I sure as hell don't seek it out.

Liked Bad Boys 2 as well, definitely not a good movie but still enjoy it for what it is.

/took that girl's virginity too
//and still with her after 16 years
