CSI image enhancement: using evanescent waves to see the invisible

Enhance all you want. It won't bring the victims... back to life.

I know that crap appears in CSI, but doesn't the use of the word "enhance" (as in Super Troopers, etc.) come from that scene in Blade Runner?

As someone who genuinely respects Ms. Weaver for her considerable acting talent, Galaxy Quest left me very... confused. And entertained.

Came in to say the same exact thing.

Well, we're set! It's in real time. All we need to do is create a GUI in Visual Basic and we'll be able to fully enhance any IP address.

the rest of the spatial information is still there. It is carried in waves (called evanescent waves) which fade away very fast. Their amplitude falls off by about one half for every wavelength travelled from the source, so for a 1mm focal length imaging system and green light, the evanescent waves are e2000 times weaker than their normal counterparts.

I hope this puts to rest the doubts around auras and aura reading. Looks like scientific instruments have finally caught up with the capabilities of the human body (well, aura readers, at least).

Yeah, CSI uses magnify.

/ The resolution isn't very good.

2012-07-10 04:17:11 AM
"Magnify that Death Sphere!
Why is still blurry?"

"That's all the resolution we have.
Making it bigger doesn't make it clearer."

"It does on CSI: Miami."

*sigh*

Yeah, But Deckard had the advantage of extremely high resolution, kinda 3D film.

I wonder how many dreams have been shattered when people sign up for those CSU-type courses you see on tv only to discover 99% of the work is scouring trash bins and gutters then doing long, monotonous chemical testing in a lab?

but but but, CSI's question suspects and get into gun fights all the time right? RIGHT? CSI is real to me dammit!!!!!

This.

Also, real labs don't have mood lighting. In fact, despite the unearthly speed at which they do all forensic operations I would imagine they would be even more efficient if they ever turned on their lighting to its fullest extent.

FTA: If your existence still requires the use of serial cables and you're not a museum curator, you deserve the collective pity of the world.

When I worked for a Motorola dealer, all but two of the two-way radio models we dealt with required a serial cable and a RIB box. We had to special order our new computers to have a serial port as an option.

But this was back in the dark old age of 2010. I'm sure the world has moved on by now.

Actually, they do, it's just that the mood is "fluorescent nausea".

Blade Runner gets a pass on suspension of disbelief because it's sci-fi full of other technology we don't have yet. The pictures are shown to be 3D in a couple shots where the lighting changes on objects in the picture.
