Nah. They may be knocked down, but they'll get up again.

I will piss the night away in their memory

I f*cking hate Chumbawumba. Good riddance.

Some one hit wonder breaks up and that ends the 90s?

F*ck that noise. Subby must be 14.

Wow, Rev's taking the breakup pretty hard. He must have listened to them in his youth while doing a lot of "tub-thumping".

It's hard to be an anarcho-punk when you're in your 40s or 50s, thinking about your mortgage, and then your knees start giving out. But they gave it a good run. Cheers.

Rev.K: I f*cking hate Chumbawumba. Good riddance.

Do you know anything other than Tubthumping?

One of the more forgettable one-hit wonders of the 90s, good riddance.

(My ear doesn't lend itself to punk too much either, which is why I haven't bothered to delve into the rest of their catalog.)

FTA: A farewell tour is planned for later this year.

Of course there is.

Then a reunion tour, an oldies tour, a reality show appearance, and then a Chumbawambawamba cruise with the one original member's son and three hacks.

FloydA: Do you know anything other than Tubthumping?

No I don't, but unfortunately for them that is their legacy.

Such is life in entertainment.

Breaking up as a revenue strategy. Better come out - you'll never get to see them again.

Compare that to just before "Tubthumping" went big and the female singer told their fans to steal their records if they felt like to, just to fark with the record companies and their greedy ways...

Yep. Those were the lyrics to that song.

These folks weren't so much one hit wonders, as anarchists who didn't give a rat's butt about promoting themselves. They've been touring pretty much straight.

The Day the Nazi Died

Their dedication to Tony Blair--NSFW lyrics

The Digger's Song

Cutty Wren and a few other Rebel Songs

World Turned Upside Down To be fair, Billy Bragg did the definitive version in most folk's minds, but this is a great version.

Bankrobber A fun cover

My friend's sister thought it was "I get no doubt, a rub a dub a dub, never gonna keep me out." Just thought i'd add that to the conversation for no particular reason.

I saw them at First Avenue many years ago (when they were semi-popular). A friend won tickets for the show on the radio and we got to go early to meet the band. I didn't really know who they were and I was drinking a lot then so why not?

We're all sitting at a table in the empty place, having our drinks and waiting around. Reluctantly, the really haggish looking woman comes shuffling out and mumbles some type of greeting, then wanders off backstage. The rest were apparently too important to be bothered.

Their opening band, A-3 (Alabama 3), came out and bought us all a few rounds of beers and shot the shiat for a while. Just small talk and no one had really heard of them (this was before The Sopranos).

Later, the show started and A-3 blew my mind. Brilliant lyrics, great bluegrass/rock/blues/house/gospel sound and really impressive set.

Chumbawumba eventually wandered out to do their "set", which was about four crappy songs and 20 minutes of the idiot singer changing outfits.

Good riddance, Chumbawumba.

Thanks for the hypo full of love, A-3.

Peaceboy: Nah. They may be knocked down, but they'll get up again.

That's garbage.

And anyway, the 80's revival is just about out of gas. Start investing in flannel futures now.

If anyone has never heard "Mao Tse Tung Said," now is the time to do it.

Seriously, what's not to like about an unhinged Jim Jones rant set to a good beat and an organ? pops

They do have one other song you would recognize, if only for the intro, which was common in commercials and the background of TV show stingers:

Amnesia

Ironically, most of you don't remember.

I was deep in Crass Records stuff for awhile but at the end of the day the only Anarcho-Punk I listen to anymore is Chumbawamba. First two albums had some damn good songs.

Stagnation / Liberation

You HATE them? Really? Pretty irrelevant band to put so much hatred and passion into. Plus I doubt anyone under 20 remembers that song.

The problem with socialist bands is that sooner or later you run out of other people's listeners.

Dragged to a free show at The Whisky a Go Go back in the day.

They came out on stage dressed as nuns drinking Jack from the bottle.

Not sure if they were trying to blend in or shock a sensibility somewhere.

I recall peeing on the construction fence in front of LA City Hall. It was like looking up at Sgt. Joe Fridays badge, 454 feet high.

Ahh, figures. I really enjoy this band. They can really pull off the a capella stuff, and whether or not one agrees with their views, they are a lot of fun to listen to. Excellent harmonies.

And no, I haven't seen them live. But '90s nostalgia shall never die. Never!

How can the 90s be dead if Wu-Tang is forever?
