The article makes me wonder if kids today even know that Dave Grohl used to play bass for Soundgarden before starting Foo Fighters.

This album kicked ass and they even mentioned Primus and Mr. Bungle in the liner notes as an influence in making it. Everything else after this sucked a giant bag of dicks. (yes even Science)

I never heard that. I really liked what I thought were the first 3 incubus albums (Science to morning view) and everyone always said Science was their first so I never looked into Fungus. I would definitely call it a major style change between the first and last of just those 3 so I couldn't imagine something crazier than science.

/those 3 albums definitely don't suck

Gunny Highway: That was very annoying with Sugar Ray albums. One half would be great music and the other half would be annoying whiny crappy music.

I know you were making fun of the other post but seriously Floored is a pretty decent album outside of "Fly". Talk about a song that really really really didn't belong on the album it was on.

Fun Fact:

Chris Slade was the drummer on AC/DC's album "The Razor's Edge"......and he was also the drummer on the Tom Jones hit "It's Not Unusual", as well as many of his other songs.

All kidding aside, I saw them perform at a local winery about two years ago, and they put on a great show.

Creed got kicked out of the 'Grass Roots' when he dropped acid right before a show in SF and couldn't function on stage. Became very disoriented and took off his pants before he was escorted offstage.

Probably the best song off Fungus Amongus and gives a nice overview of the style of the album. Lot more funk and heavy guitar driven songs: Link

downstairs: hbk72777: And Vince Gill was a hard rocker

I wouldn't say hard rock, if you're speaking of Pure Prarie League... but it wasn't pure country. Sort of the seeds of country rock. And some pretty good songs.

He actually started out as a bluegrass singer then morphed into the country/rock start.

This might be a bit too obscure for the American market, but one of the bigger "shockers" in this regard was "Aphrodite's Child", a progressive rock group featuring both Vangelis and Demis Roussos. Vangelis is pretty well known for his synth soundtracks (Chariots of Fire, Ridley Scott's 1492), the latter enjoyed some popularity in the German "schlager" circuit (i.e. saccharine pop aimed at the elderly). Fat, bearded, jovial Greek dude singing silly love songs.

It's basically Roger Whittaker and Yanni getting together to form Genesis.

/And yeah, I'm aware that looking at their 80s/90s track record, Genesis might be a good example themselves

Came her for Fleetwood Mac, leaving somewhat satisfied. They went through at least 3 or 4 iterations by the time Stevie & Lindsay came along. But as long as (Mick) Fleetwood and (John) Mac(Vie) are there, it will be Fleetwood Mac.

Surprised nobody mentioned that Alanis Morrisette (sp?) was once on Nick's "You Can't Do That on Television",and recorded peppy little pop songs before becoming the 90s favorite angry young woman.

Annoying ass Skrillex was in an annoying ass emo band
Post annoying ass emo band he made some of the worlds shiattiest electronica(no joke) under his real name, Sonny Moore
Sonny Moore then had his "style" crafted for him by other individuals who provided him plugins for Massive and other production tools
Sonny Moore then proceeded to take every sound these new plugins can create, and threw them into a blender
Swifly he hit "liquify" on the blender
The resulting noise is what we know today as "Skrillex"

Everyone seems to forget that Pink Floyd started as a banjo trio, a washtub bass and a washboard. Trying to learn the electric guitar drove Syd Barrett nuts.

ZAZ: The 1970s saw two good, new, progressive rock bands, Journey and Toto, who are now remembered as 1980s pop rock ballad generators.

Now get off my lawn while I cry into the nicely manicured grass over what's become of music.

I loved Heart in the 1970s. The 1980s nearly ruined them for me.

I got my hands on an original pressing of Killing Jokes first album and they very Depeche Mode, whatever genre that music was.

Most people don't start where they wind up because you start off where you think you want to be based on the people around you. Then you say "fark this" and find a new you. Sometimes it's for the better, sometimes it's to deliver pizzas until you get a DUI and wind up living in a cardboard box down by the river because they took your van.

They also had a psychadelic phase didn't they?

They did write "Black Magic Woman" which became a hit for Santana.

Then again I have never met a decidedly east coast woman that I thought "hmm, that's hot." New York/New Jersey chicks especially are just fugly to me.
