She actually sprained her ankle racing to the floor to vote? Wow.

2012-07-09 01:19:17 PM
why "good riddance?" because she was a moderate?

2012-07-09 01:24:32 PM
Meh. If you lived in Maine you'd spend all your time in DC, too.

/i keed
//well done, senator

2012-07-09 01:50:43 PM
Joe DiMaggio would be impressed.

2012-07-09 01:50:45 PM
Clearly she's out of touch with the people in her state. For starters, she's not a mouth-breathing moron.

2012-07-09 01:53:45 PM
Came here to see people congratulate her with bipartisan support / affection, expecting to leave satisfied that Independents™ will accuse the Fark Libs of tearing her down despite all evidence to the contrary.

2012-07-09 01:54:35 PM
She really wanted that gold star.

FlashHarry: why "good riddance?" because she was a moderate?

That's good ATTENDANCE, lol.

2012-07-09 01:55:47 PM
Congratulations... one of the few members of Congress who actually earns her paycheck by doing the job she was elected to do.

/Fark lib

2012-07-09 01:59:26 PM
I'm torn between "good for her" and "that's what she gets paid for". I guess I can feel both.

2012-07-09 01:59:29 PM
Attendance is great, until you see what Cal Ripken Jr. did with it in his later years.

//in all seriousness though, thanks Mrs. Snowe.

2012-07-09 02:02:03 PM
As a libby left lib, I say good for her. Whether I agree with her political beliefs or not, I respect the fact that she's actually doing what she's supposed to rather than farking the dog all the time like so many of her colleagues of both parties often do.

Hooray! You showed up for work!

2012-07-09 02:08:18 PM

Nezorf: Hooray! You showed up for work every single day for 25 years.!

If one of my employees showed up for work every single day for 25 years, I also would celebrate their accomplishment. Olympia Snowe doesn't represent me or my state, so a kudos from me isn't really appropriate. Given Mark Kirk is one of my senators, making a wish my Senators would do their job as well as she would also isn't particularly appropriate. Instead, I suppose I'll just say it would be nice if all of our elected politicians took their job as seriously as Snowe does.

A Senata will brag about some shiat a normal Senator just does. A Senata will say some shiat like, "I actually show up to work and participate in votes." YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO, YOU DUMB MOTHERFARKER! What kind of ignorant shiat is that? Of course you did! You're not supposed to just blow off work, you low-expectation-having motherfarker!

2012-07-09 02:10:34 PM
Um...this is Susan Collins we're talking about, not Olympia Snowe.

THIS. As great as it is that she did this, I'm also depressed that it's news when a Senator does the job they were elected to. It should be expected that everyone in that position be there every day unless they're actually ill.

There. Congratulations, that really is an impressive accomplishment. Now can we discuss why she's aligning herself with a destructive party?

It's all those babies she eats.

2012-07-09 02:42:40 PM
Kinda interesting factoid:

Collins lost a Gubernatorial election in 1994 to Angus King, who is now running to replace Snowe, and who will be the junior senator to her.

She should run for Governor in 2014

Not to worry, the Teatards have already targeted her for elimination.

True..it is their job, but can you say that in 15 years of work you've never missed a meeting? Typically, everyone misses some stuff here and there.

Aligning herself? Why, she's a moderate! She has nothing to do with all those crazy right-wingers! She only votes with them almost all the time because...

I got nothing. Collins is a MINO.

See? If you have the best free health care in the world you too can work 25 years without a sick day.

because the GOP is one powerful machine and too many votes off party-line will cost you your seat. Some may even say a single vote will do it.

So why does she get credit for being a "moderate"? If she votes the same as a crazy, she has the same impact as a crazy.

Have you shown up to work every day for 25 years? Look, she shouldn't get a medal, but she should get a nod and a back pat at least.

Ha ha. Care to explain how the hell you arrived at that conclusion?

Difficulty: Do it without speaking derp.

"Showing up to work" for a Congressperson means about 120 days a year and this is up from about 90 days during the early 2000s. In the 70s, Congress would be in sessions for over 300 days. Just sayin'.

2012-07-09 05:00:39 PM
I could play golf every day for ten years. Doesn't mean I'll ever hit it straight.

I don't completely agree. Her flight home may have been to constituent meetings regarding some important problems and the vote was some procedural bs or some anti-flag burning nonsense. Out of the 5000 votes, 50 were probably real/important.

2012-07-09 05:44:43 PM
She was such a moderate, she only filibustered 99.9% of everything brought to the Senate since 2009.

Wow, great job! Way to compromise there, Senator.

Motherfarking THIS ^. When the deal goes down and their votes actually matter, Snowe and Collins ALWAYS get in line and voted with the rest of the teabaggers. The notion that either were "moderates" is bullshiat. Maybe 10-15 years ago, but lately....nah.

She crossed party lines on the Buffet Rule vote, when Mark Pryor and Lieberman voted against it.

2012-07-09 06:13:22 PM
ok, that's 1/5000 (.0002). Peachy. She also voted for damn near every filibuster in the last 3 years, including bills that passed with huge majorities, so that sort or nullifies her one piddling vote (not to mention she was part of the crew that took the teeth of the Buffet rule in order to secure her vote)

2012-07-09 06:28:15 PM
See, my problem isn't that she shoes up for every single vote she is eligible for. It's that she's admitted in the past that she doesn't always know a damn thing about what she's there for. No knowledge of the topic, no background reading, nothing; just gonna show up and gives me a good old gut-feeling (or uterus feeling. or something).

If she isn't going to be informed on the subject, I wish she'd just stay the fark home. Better yet, stop running if your only contribution to politics is "I'll show up each and every time".

John McCain- meet the woman you could have had as a running mate instead of that slack jawed yokel from Alaska.

It would complete the circle, unfortunately she ran for governor in order to run for the senate. =P
