Bathia_Mapes: So, any Australians in this thread that can address the issue of her moving to Australia?

More importantly, even if she has relatives living in Australia, would she be allowed to move there with no steady income, 14 children, many of whom are special needs, etc. I doubt the Australian government would be willing to pay to support her and her children and I wouldn't blame them a bit for refusing to do so.

In short, does anyone know what the requirements are for emigrating to Australia?

Australian immigration is based on a points system to determine how useful you will be to the country.

If you're under 30, have a degree and speak English as a first language you can pretty much walk in. If your degree is in a 'critical skills' area you can sometimes even bring a friend (spouse, life partner, long term bf/). The same applies to some skilled trades were there is a skills shortage.

The older you are and the more dependants you have the more useful you need to be to get a visa. Unless Octomum is:

A: already a citizen
B: is getting married to one and can make it look legit
C: a world class brain surgeon on the verge of curing cancer

Then her chances are pretty slim.

skinink: Octomom Dundee?

"That's not a vagina. THIS is a vagina!"

FYI, she had a C-sect. I saw her movies last week and she has a poosay of a 10 year old.

/two things:
1. I have never seen an actual 10 year old poosay, It's just a simile for tight and underdeveloped.
2. I did not fap.

In before all the "her cooter is not the size of the Chunnel; all her deliveries were C-sections, not vaginal" comments.

Sounds like a plan.

Crocs will take a few off her hands, then the dingo's can nail a few, then the sharks, snakes can weed out the herd a bit, and finally, spiders. Hell, give it about 3 years and Australia will clean that up all by itself.

"People in America hate my daughter and that breaks my heart, so I think the only solution is for us to all move away," said 69-year-old Ed Suleman. "And I can't think of a better place for us to go than Australia, as living in California has become toxic for Nadya. She's constantly being attacked by paparazzi and judged by her peers for going on government funding.

Ed seems like the only one with that last name that has two functioning brain cells.

Gotta be tough to be her Dad when her daughter has done something so incredibly stupid.

Moving to another country seems pretty extreme to get away from things but it really seems like the path of least resistance in this case.

The Gold Coast is the Jersey Shore of Australia.

Hm.

Let's sweeten the deal even more. Send them Octomom, the Jersey Shore cast, anyone named Kardashian, and their pick of any three cast sets of "Real Housewives of..." in exchange for Kylie Minogue and a second round draft pick.

You must also pass a character requirement, in which you have to submit police records.

You still need a police record to move to Australia?

The Evil That Lies In The Hearts Of Men: If you're under 30, have a degree and speak English as a first language you can pretty much walk in.

You might want to tell that to all the folks on the various immigration forums who have been waiting for multiple years.

A degree, fluent english and at least four years work experience and you'll get the points. You won't actually get in unless you're on one of the lists of in-demand skills though, because the demand for visas has been outstripping the available places for years, and now that Australia has shown itself to be 'recession-proof' that's only getting worse. You can up your chances by applying for state sponsorship, if you promise to live in a particular state and have things they need on their (slightly different) lists. You can walk in if you have a job with a company that are willing to sponsor your visa (most aren't), and then you have to walk out again if you lose your job.

One of the things people don't realise about Aus is that the cost of living here is enormous - I earn about 50% more than I did in the UK, and I have to spend more of it to survive than I did there. Of course I do get live by the sea in a place where the sun shines nearly every day....

I took a quick look, and it's complicated.
Like many other countries, they seem to have a point system.
The skilled, and educated are obviously favored, and every member of your family has to pass a health exam.
Even if you pass the exam, government benefits don't kick in until you've been living there for 104 weeks.
============

In order to obtain a visa to move to Australia, you need to pass the required health standards. The examination is different for each applicant, based on the country of origin and intended stay in Australia. For a temporary visa, those over 70, those known of having a medical condition, those who are likely to enter a hospital and those who will be in a classroom environment are required to take the health examinations. For a permanent visa, everyone in your family must meet the health requirements.

You must also pass a character requirement, in which you have to submit police records. In order to become a citizen of Australia, you must be a legal resident for five years, but there are different requirements depending on when you apply. You are also required to pass a citizenship test.
===============
In short, I don't think she has a chance in hell

My daughter married an Aussie. It was literally almost a year to the date before they approved her permanent visa.

While she lived with him down there on a temporary visa, from here, I had to help with certified copies of all her medical records, state criminal back ground check, FBI fingerprint criminal back ground check (yep, had to send them her fingerprints), certified copies of her school records.

Down there she did two complete medical check ups, three separate individual interviews, three times together as a couple, friends and family were interviewed or asked to submit affidavits stating essentially "these two are truly in love."

They lived through a year of knowing she could be turned down.

And people think it's hard to get into the U.S.? Sheeesh

If Octomom thinks she can just tip toe through the tulips and emigrate there, what she should be doing is applying for insane asylum!

Do not want, and I'm not even Aussie.

2012-07-09 05:14:40 PM
Not going to happen. Here's why. She has no job,no degree, and tons of kids. My Dad who is married to an Australian woman and lives in Australia is always on the verge of being deported because of his health. So honestly the "welfare" system is not going to let this woman with all these kids move there. Especially since-- they do not really have an equal opportunity work force. SO yeah.. GOOD LUCK WITH THAT.

Hoo yeah! I moved from London to Perth. Perth is by far the more expensive city.
You get the sunshine, the space and the sea as compensation, but it's pricey. For example - a pint of beer in London will set you back somewhere in the 3-4 pounds bracket, IIRC. Over here in 'stralia it's usually $10-12 (about 7-8 pounds).

Wait, you can't immigrate to Australia if you don't speak English? They're really missing out on a lot of productive, hardworking individuals who might be interested in moving there simply because they don't speak English.

"Let's see...according to your application for citizenship you have three doctorate degrees, you've cured six forms of cancer, you brought peace to the Middle East, you've been to space and found life on Mars, and your bank account has like a trillion dollars in it. Is all of this information accurate?"

"Si."

"Oh. Well, thanks for your time."
