(Medical Xpress)   Good news, parents. If your kid asks you this summer what causes sunburn, you can tell them that UV radiation fractures and tangles non-coding micro-RNA which provokes an inflammatory response in nearby cells which helps remove damaged cells   (medicalxpress.com) divider line 13

I just tell them it's God's way of warning them that they'll burn in Hell if they don't behave.

I'm not sure what any of that means, but I can assure you, my micro-RNA got really radiation fractured and tangled yesterday when I spent a day on a boat with apparently defective sunblock.

I just tell them that it's because they touch themselves at night.

okay... i'm embarrassed to say this because i'm a biologist but... sunburns aren't actually burns, they're inflammation?

It does explain how my skin can be really burnt bad one day and completely white the next. I know nothing else that un-burns. If it is just inflammation, it makes sense.

Or in my case, the inflammatory response is so bad that I have to take steroids just to keep my skin from melting off of me in giant ulcers. Hooray for photosensitive autoimmune disorders!

If teachers can't apply sunscreen, they might as well tell the kids all that instead. It will help just as much.

I wouldn't say that. I once had a second-degree sunburn over most of my face and neck. Straight inflammation shouldn't blister.

/Back in the dark ages of sunblock, it apparently washed off in a cool breeze.
//A week of camping later, I almost went to the hospital.

what about irritation from rubbing? that's an inflammatory response, looks like blister burns.
