Slaxl: violentsalvation: Lionel Mandrake: Why is a British news(-ish) outlet the number one source for stories about American student-diddlers?

I wonder that often.

It doesn't happen often enough over here, so we have to borrow yours to get our "where were these teachers when I was in school?" jollies in the morning.

In our defense, we have more rednecks than you.

skinink: ""Texas law was strengthened in 2003 to outlaw sexual relationships between teachers and students, even if it's among consenting adults."
I don't think it's overreaching by the government. . . I'm behind her being charged in this.

I too think it should be punishable . . . as soon as politicians get similar prison time for their otherwise-legal activities with co-workers, particularly those over whom they have authority, even if they're consenting adults.

Compare the size of Texas and Great Britain. You'd almost have to compare the backwardsness of the USA with the backwardsness of parts of Europe.
Also, in the US the culture of generations of backwoods behavior is now almost instantly connected to the 21st century with Wal*Marts and internets and major news outlets within a stone's throw everywhere. I'm sure, at some point in the next few years, we'll be hearing about the inbred craziness in remote parts of Europe and Asia.
/Still centuries away from finding out what's been going on in Africa, though.

Jim from Saint Paul: spiral_fishcake: Woah! She looks just like the chick who ate the forensics intern from the last season of Dexter!

lack of warmth: Jamieboy: miss diminutive: Lionel Mandrake: Why is a British news(-ish) outlet the number one source for stories about American student-diddlers?

Also, why does every one of these stories always have a pic of the front of the school? Every school looks pretty much the same anyway, it's not like it's bringing anything to the story.

We all know what schools look like and posting pics does not bring anything to the story except fill up space. But since this 'victim' is 18 and an adult, I'd like to see a pics of him to see if he was worth all the time, trouble and the end of a teaching career.

I think it points out that if your school building sucks, something stupid is going to happen. Look up Brooklyn-Cayce HS, SC, that school has really cool structure. It was built over 100 years ago and has been maintained. Although I won't tell you sex hasn't happened their, just not involving teachers. The geeks used the band room, while the rest went home for their fun. (atleast when I was there)

Mrs. Coast - whose son starts at BCHS in three years - is now unsure whether or not she wants him to be a band geek like her.

BTW, she went to HS here:

/damn sight nicer than BCHS
//FWIW she's cy_co_whore on here
///my life is interesting

Gaseous Anomaly: ChubbyTiger: Out of curiosity, why does a high school have a forensic science teacher? What possible purpose could that serve?

It could be a vocational school. My district had one of those (shared with a couple other counties) - you could spend 11th/12th grades there learning auto mechanicry, electricianeering, and such.

This. They offer Welding, Auto Mechanics, Cosmetology, and EMT training as well as the more hands on stuff this lady did...
