Amazing performance no matter how many times I hear the 9th it always sends chills down my spine. Music is one of the few arts we've probably regressed in the past 200 years.

flashmobs: people that desperately need a job/hobby.

Even though it was obviously set up well in advance I loved this.
Glad they made sure they did the absolutely brilliant ending to the symphony, one of my favorite parts.

pudding7: Isn't that the song from Die Hard, when the bad guys opened the bank vault?

Good god is this a depressing statement...

"Durr... is that the song from Die Hard?!?! durrrr"

No, moron ...its only one part of what might be the greatest piece of music ever written. If aliens landed and asked me what music was, I would have them listen to the 9th

I always thought a 'flash mob' was a loosely organized, large group of people that decided to show up some where and do something neat/cool/funny. Having most of your orchestra and choir just wander out into the street and play a well rehearsed piece doesnt really fit that.

/Still, very cool.

doglover: RoyBatty: doglover: RoyBatty: Especially the flash mobs like this one which are spontaneously made to pimp a bank.

It wasn't spontaneous, it was part of the bank's celebrations. Basically they made a little commercial.

It is to a flash mob what paid billboards are to tagging.

Yeah, that was actually my point. :(

On the 130th anniversary of the founding of Banco Sabadell we wanted to pay homage to our city by means of the campaign "Som Sabadell" (We are Sabadell) . This is the flashmob that we arranged as a final culmination with the participation of 100 people from the Vallès Symphony Orchestra

My point was IT'S NOT A FLASHMOB AT ALL. Shouldn't even occur to people to call it thus. It's an orchestra pretending to be a flash mob for a bank's commercial.

The only thing I don't love about orchestral flash mobs is how much they kick up the dust around my computer. Damnedest thing.

How did that happen?

LumberJack: How many times does it have to be said..... If nearly the entire crowd is there waiting for it to happen, cell-phone cameras running, it's not a farking FLASH MOB. And the little girl who just stands there, parents nowhere in sight, nah, that wasn't staged.

That.

"Hey, everyone, something waaaacky is going to occur here in about 15 minutes, so geeeeeeeet ready! Woooo!"

Nice idea, but no way the sound was recorded from the street. Way too clean for that. Still, nice dub.

Holy shiat, dude, way to piss on a cool thing. And why? To prove you're not a rube or something, to try to impress imaginary chicks, what? It's a cool thing. Yeah, the sound may be enhanced or something, who cares?

The world doesn't need people who shiat on great things just to prove they can.

The problem here is similar to Poe's Law: You can't say something dumb enough online that it won't be more readily presumed straight-up than joking. (And adding a note in nearly invisible ink isn't likely to help the kind of people it's meant to.)

I beg your pardon - I thought this was fark, where bullshiat is called. The headline sold this as some kind of flashmob, which it clearly isn't. And it wasn't really that great, either, but if you liked it, then cool.

Flash mob? Not a flash mob? The notion is rather fuzzy and open to interpretation.

About the worst thing I've seen that was promoted as a flash mob was a group of around 40 people who were sitting together in outdoor bleachers at some event. At one point they all stood up and did the maccarena or the hokey-poky or some badly coordinated shiat in support of calling attention to some cause or charity.

This "mob" was "covered" in local papers with instructions to "like" the video on YouTube.

If the internet has produced anything more tedious than people arguing about the exact definition of "flashmob" - which term didn't even exist a decade or so ago - I don't know what it is.

Creationists, maybe.

I'm just impressed all those strangers happened to know the words to that song and were singing along. It's not like it gets a lot of airplay anymore, not even on oldies stations. Maybe Spaniards are just really smart at music.

I got my 10 year old niece hooked on classical thanks to Ode To Joy (and Ave Maria). Set up my brothers surround sound speakers, plugged in my MP3 player to test, cranked the volume up. My niece was standing there beside me watching. Ran through Ave Maria followed by Ode To Joy. My niece was standing there with her mouth hanging open by the end saying "Wow!" Got a call a few days later from my brother saying I'd ruined her because "Now all she wants to listen to is that shiat you listen to." I just grinned smugly and ran off a copy of every classical piece I had and took it to my niece.

I would have loved to see the girl walk up at the end of the song, take her money back out, say "I hate that song", and walk away.

Nice find, subby. This got me looking for a good O Fortuna flash mob. Some decent ones, but while browsing all I found worth sharing on Fark was this.
