Calmamity: Same thing with Ayn Rand. I thought Objectivism was a viable political philosophy when I was 13.

But then I grew the fu*k up.

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world.

The other, of course, involves orcs.

Well at least until he switches back when he's graduated college and can't find a job. Obama has apparently lost a huge chunk of young voters because of his FAIL on the jobs front.

And they're gonna vote Republican because...?

Same here. I was a subscriber to National Review, read all of WFB's books, even his horrible spy novels. Listened to Rush and even watched his TV show.

Then I went out into the world and realized all of that childish bullsh*t was just some sort of bizarre view of the world. I still can't really explain what drew me to that nonsense. I think it had to do with their overwhelming confidence that they were right, that they had the secret to wealth and happiness. I really thought at that age, that if you were a Republican and thought the way they did, you would magically become wealthy.

It's nice to see clearly now. However, some days... I wish I took the blue pill.

Clearly, he was a liberal plant to make the Republicans look foolish during the 2012 general election.

All of the people cheering for him? Liberal plants.

The FoxNews talking heads calling him the next Sean Hannity? Liberal plants.

Sean Hannity? Liberal plant.

Apparently this is what Jim Callahan actually believes.

...plus, giving this a second thought, he was a thirteen-year-old boy at the time. They were probably thinking about drugging him up and seeing which Congressman, pundit, lobbyist and/or wealthy donor would pay the highest troll toll. He's lucky Limbaugh didn't point at his butt and scream "THAR PUDDING THAR!" and lunge at him with a bottle of oxy in one hand and corpulent fat rolls in the other, raging two-inch half-boner exposed for all to see.

I don't think he's a Liberal now. He's just no longer a Conservative, and he's exploring the world around him. My guess is he'll create his own identity.

But points to you for taking a story about a young man who grows and matures, and decides he's no longer a Conservative and turning that into "Liberals are bad!"

No actual conservative has ever devolved into a liberal before so the notion of "winning back" is non sequitur for that example.

You think liberals are lockstep? you clearly don't understand liberals. I believe the term "Herding cats" was used to describe thier tendancy for unity.

Seriously, and for a 17 yr old he certainly knows how to write. I wouldn't go so far as to call him a Democrat -- he's clearly disillusioned by politics as a whole. Maybe with his talent and passion he could go on to make a difference, as hard as that is to believe.
