(Stars and Stripes)   Whatever you do in the Philippines, don't try to sing Frank Sinatra's "My Way" in karaoke bars. You've been warned   (stripes.com) divider line 95

This song is like the leading cause of death in that country.

Filipinos take karaoke seriously.

I would also caution folks to be careful when drinking with Filipinos, because there is always one designated pourer in every party. He or she WILL do their level best to cause you liver damage if you let them. The Filipino Welcome Wagon is something to be feared.

Have the Adobo though. They are a fine and welcoming people, and they take their partying very seriously...

One of the victims was a man who was shot dead by a security guard in a karaoke bar for his off-key delivery.

I think this should be adopted in the States. In fact all karaoke is obnoxious but if some drunken fat couple goes to press the "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" button, a lethal bolt of electricity should be discharged.

I can't sing worth a fark. I will refrain from ever attempting to sing anything if I ever visit the Philippines.

An Inquirer story in 2010 said at least half a dozen people had been killed in over a decade around the country, many in karaoke bars, for not singing the Sinatra masterpiece the right way.

One of the victims was a man who was shot dead by a security guard in a karaoke bar for his off-key delivery.

Jesus...you weren't kidding, subby. Karaoke = serious business, apparently

hubiestubert: Filipinos take karaoke seriously.

Seriously seriously. I was in an SF pizza place for lunch one afternoon and the back banquet room was filled with Filipinos singing "Happy Birthday". Just that one song. Over and over and over. By the time I finished eating I was ready to commit homicide.

Really? I love sinatra, but he was known to hate pretty much everyone outside his circle of friends. Hell... He hated Elvis. That fact alone leads me to believe he really hated punk musicians with a fury.

As a Navy veteran who is 1/2 Filipino and has been to the Philippines and a large part of the far east I can attest that drinking and karaoke are important skills.

I don't wear them too often. They're a little snug in the crotch.

I like their style, but they could have gone into that a little more.
Can anybody shoot them, or just the guard? Do I petition him, or just glance in his general direction and slowly shake my head? I wonder if they're plugged on stage or when they go out for a smoke...
The fascinating story is given some serious short-shrift while they go off on some goofy tangent.
