BronyMedic: I could ask you the same question. However, at this point, I'm just going to ignore you. You're entire line of conversation on this has been completely intellectually dishonest, filled with selective quoting, ignoring what I say, revisionist history, and blatent strawmanning/trolling.

That's funny. This is all you can do after called out on your bullshiat.

For over 7 years, the Bush administration kept detainees in legal limbo with no tribunals, tortured, held without evidence, all against the rules of the Geneva Convention.

But your argument is they were held within the limits set by the Convention, that's bullshiat.

You tried saying they were illegal combatants, but the section you quoted said they had a legal right to a tribunal to have evidence presented.

You tried to say they were lucky to be alive, as in the old days POW's would "all be lined up and shot" going against evidence in every war America has ever fought.

After called out on that, you provided "proof" of tribunals which only resulted after the Bush administration had a SCOTUS ruling against them, forcing them to convene a tribunal that Obama started.

Over 80% have been released without any proof they were taking up arms against an invading army, the rest are being tried finally in tribunals by the Obama administration.

Bush was an embarrassment to what people claim are America's ideals. Obama is the only person doing what is right within the Constitutional limits. Gitmo is and was an embarrassment and no law justified its existence. It was never used in the past and the only historical similarity is the internment of Japanese-Americans during WWII.

Once again, you fall apart when forced to actually debate a topic you know little about, like I said, go get an education, and stay out of topics you need to run to Wiki for help.

NewportBarGuy: Why aren't we trying these people in criminal courts here in the US or releasing them to the international criminal court?

because Obama is a pussy wimp socialist commie muslin pussy.

yeah it really bothers me. it was one of the larger reasons i was happy to vote for him. stupid wimpy pussy commie etc etc. fark the "political reality" if he had just told the right wing to fark off and done the trials here they would have whooped and hollered but stopped after a while. and he would have demonstrated to all Americans (and the world) that the rule of law means something.

of course that wouldn't have fit in with the expansions of the patriot act, the drone strikes and any one of a number of extralegal things he has done.

So you're upset at him for doing things "beyond his power" and for NOT doing things "beyond his power". That means no matter what he would have done, you'd still be pissed at him.

Of course, he'd have closed Gitmo a long time ago if the Republicans have let him, but like I said earlier they're too focused on fighting Obama with every single thing he tries to do. Nothing matters to them anymore except the total and utter defeat of their perceived nemesis, and if they have to destroy the country to do it then so be it.

How about moving it to northern Alaska?

You mean the budget that the congress has to approve, and the Republican majority has said they will not vote to apporve any budget unless he includes provisions to repeal the ACA?

clowncar on fire: Somaticasual: It's kindof sad that this thread turned into another pedantic HOA thread, when it should be about the degradation of freedoms and hypocrisy that gitmo currently stands for. For a facility that obama was 100% going to close, it represents yet another thread in the sheet of slow tyranny that was scavenged from a formerly-great democracy..

It's kind of sad people do stupid enough shiat that they need to be rounded up and kept away for the good of society...

You mean like wearing the wrong sort of watch?

The drone strikes worry me a whole lot.

Let's put partisan politics aside and look at what these strikes are doing for and to us. Note- Bush & Obama both used them and congress is doing nothing to counter these strikes so I think it's very fair to say that this is not a partisan issue in the least.

The US is currently flying drones over a handful of countries filled with people who don't like us very much. The appeal of drones is very clear- significantly reduced losses of American lives and the ability to strike fear into enemies regardless of how close we have any standing armies or ships.

But we are literally fueling the flames of our own destruction. How many innocent civilians are we killing globally every week? Ten? Fifty? And every one of those innocent civilians has/had families and friends. And every single one of those people is going to pledge themselves towards the destruction of the US.

So the question remains- Is it worth it to bring about the eventual destruction of the United States by increasing the number of radical anti-American people in the world, simply in an effort to kill a few people who already have that as their goal?

Again, this is not a partisan issue, Bush developed these and Obama quintupled their production and their use. Neither of them seemed to mind the fact that they are causing more problems for the US than they could ever hope to solve.

Mr President- End this madness.

The world will surely like america more if they hold more people without trial, perform more drone strikes on civilians, invade more nations without cause, and ignore more borders. Maybe more bombs on more brown people will make them all send flowers and chocolates and perform fellatio on the POTUS?

I can`t imagine why there may be people with a grudge against america, they must be jealous.

That`s it, jealous...

I love the ....But, but congress wouldn't let Obama shut Gitmo prison down.

That's so funny .... Since Nancy and Harry had control of both houses at the time.
