All that's left of W-D in my town are two vacant, bombed out big boxes.

And there are always drunk guys with shipping carts hanging out there.

My first job was a winn Dixie as a bag boy when I was 15. I actually worked for them until I graduated college. I only worked for one shiatty store out of the 4 that I worked in throughout the years. It was in the ghetto so we were constantly chasing shoplifters. At one point they actually had a uniformed cop guarding the door. One morning I was opening the meat department and I pulled into the parking lot before sun up and a hooker chased my truck thinking I was a john or something.

It kind of is. The stores tend to be older, in worse areas and thus shiattier looking. The quality of the store brands suck compared to publix. The one place where they tend to be superior is the meat department. The prices are better and the quality seems better as well.

I used to live in Greenacres, and I have to say that the Winn-Dixie closest to my house was pretty nice in spite of it's proximity to 3 trailer parks. Though, I have to say that everybody who worked there looked like they had lost their souls quite a long time ago.

The one I worked at was right across the street from the projects, and was an absolute crap-hole

The manager was actually farking a 16 year old in the warehouse and supposedly threatened to fire anybody who turned him in... this was well after I left

I worked at a Delchamps in high school that was across the street from a Winn-Dixie.

No matter how bad my day, I'd leave from work happy that I didn't work at Winn-Dixie.

Have to agree with you. Publix's tend to be much nicer, generally, than the Winn-Dixie's, at least in my town. I usually prefer to shop at Publix, for that reason, and, of course, because it's fun to pronounce it "Pubix".

Also can't help but wonder how many Farkers are saying "What the bleep is a Publix?" since Publix stores are found only the southeast.

I only know about it from all the times I vacationed in Florida but just those few times I've been there made Publix one of my favorite grocery stores. They all seem so clean and organized and visually appealing overall.

They generally are very nice grocery stores, and good to their workers. Also, when a particular store starts to age, they frequently will knock it down and build a much newer store on the same location, or nearby.

Don't know about Publix and the Winn Dixies in Texas went away several years back. But Winn Dixie is basically a low-rent version of Kroger.

But at least they didn't try to repackage and sell spoiled meat like Food Lion

Funny thing about Winn-Dixie is that they once had a footprint that extended as far west as New Mexico and as far north as Indiana. Part of the reason for most of the new stores using 'Marketplace' as the big sign out front and 'Winn-Dixie' in smaller letters off to the side was to deemphasis the use of 'Dixie' outside of the South. Then Wal-Mart started selling groceries which appealed mostly to Winn-Dixie's core demographic. They probably should have just surrendered immediately and sold themselves to Wal-Mart for whatever they could get. Much like K-Mart, most of the chain's value by bankrupcy was in the real estate the stores sat on.

/The store brand Chek-Cola is nasty but I don't know if there is any entity on earth that makes as many soft drink varieties as Chek.

His actions seem to be the norm nowadays considering the HUGE flood of news stories filling the Web about this and similar incidents.

What a wonderful lovely society we have.... and even more diversity can only make us "stronger" and when the population reaches a billion and more (thanks to our ruling masters and their lackey politicians) and resources become increasingly scarce then the USA will have to be a Heaven-like place.

WTF is he talking about?

White trash is white trash because of "diversity"?
