surprise, surprise.

I'm farking shocked.

Here I thought Romney would mold his campaign to reflect a standard GOP message instead of the other way around with the GOP adopting the flip-flopping "hold any position required" Romney-style argument.

I'm impressed that the GOP is now in favor of more socialized government spending. You know, like normal.

Ever since ObamaCare was passed I've been watching the lala land where liberals suddenly have no problem at all taking huge amounts out of Medicare.

Cutting Medicare is A-OK as long as its being done to cover up the cost of ObamaCare I guess.

If a Republican administration had done that liberals would have screamed from now until doomsday. You would literally hear about it in talking points from Democrats for 10-20 years.

2012-07-07 01:03:39 PM
Obviously you don't live in a swing state subby.

Or else you'd see all the attack ads from the right criticizing Obama for cutting Medicare with Obamacare (while omitting the fact the GOP wants to gut the whole system and replace it with a privatized abortion).

2012-07-07 01:05:28 PM
Not to disagree with the article because Republicans have frequently reacted to anything the President may agree to with opposition and doomsaying, but is this relevant to anything recent? Bust out those points when Romney says something about this in debates or when Senate Republicans and the President have a meeting on the topic, otherwise I fail to see the point. Just tired of poor news quality.

If Obama said "I am firmly opposed to using a ball-peen hammer to pound roofing nails up my own urethra" you'd hear nothing but screams from red state Home Depots.

Not at all. See, Romney's position is, "I'm for anything that'll get me more votes, and against anything that will cost me votes", while the GOP's position is "We're for anything that Obama's against, and against anything that Obama's for." Totally different positions.

Medicare will still be in tact, the Dems don't want to replace it with a privitized system based on vouchers that will grow more and more worthless every year like Paul Ryan's dumbass plan approved by the GOP does.

Republicans would have cut it without offering alternatives or ways to shift people to another system.

Or they would do what they did in Bush's first time and just increase Medicare by billions with no way to pay for it.

I want to see them push for privatized Medicare and Social Security just because it'd be hilarious to see the arguments about how it was cool

Can't be stressed enough. They are so consumed with just opposing Obama that their arguments are becoming more and more meaningless because of all the contradictions and backpedaling.

Republicans demagogue and Democrats compromise. As this pattern repeats today's center is yesterday's right wing. Democrats seem to want to be only as liberal as necessary to be distinguishable from Republicans and they almost seem relieved when they can move to the right and still be to the left of Republicans. What's the farking deal? Why can't we have a real left wing to balance a batshiat insane right wing?

My sincere hope for the future is that the Republicans collapse under their own weight, the Democrats become the new right-wing, and the left-wing that's been effectively disenfranchised since the late '70s/early '80s coalesces under a new banner.

And what, given the history of the last 4-5 years would make a yoke assume that this tactic won't work?

/It will

//My prediction - the President is re-elected, and since the right incorrectly assumes that everyone hates the President as much as they do, the tea party types begin to swallow whole the assertion of their leaders that the election must have been stolen...ACORN, writ large. This is used as a pretext to enact a series of the most regressive voting laws in the history of your Republic. Since this will turn elections to otherwise unelectable hard-right candidates, they will point to this and say, 'see, without all that fraud, we would have been winning all along...there's your evidence.'

Ya know, maybe if Obama supported every GOP stance while rejecting every Democrat position, perhaps we'd be in better shape as a nation by now. The GOP would flail about and vote "anti-Obama" by constantly pushing through initiatives that are actually good for us, all because dat moolimb kenyan usurper said he is against 'em!

When the only defense for this behavior is about what liberals would have done if reality were completely different, it's not really a defense.

Would be nice if there were actual, rational, conservatives around here to defend or explain the Republican positions. I don't doubt they exist, but I'm guessing that so much of this stuff is just indefensible that they don't even bother anymore.

All of the rational conservatives got primaried out. Purged, if you will, for their lack of ideological purity.

...why is everyone thinking this crap is new? From the day Obama was elected, he's put forth some of the best Republican policies as good ideas, only for Republicans to reject them afterwards and deny they'd ever supported them because they now had Obama cooties all over them.

Reverse psychology tends to only work only people who have functioning brains. It doesn't do a whole lot of good against the paranoid schizophrenic tendencies that the modern day Republican party constantly displays.

Letting poor people die is A-OK as long as they are dying in a desert with oil underneath it,
