Let's be realistic; the Big Pharma companies have never been averse to lining their own pockets.

Not only that, but they're significantly contributing to the medical costs spiraling out of control, too.

Kind of makes you wonder why there were few if any questions or comments about drug prices during this whole health care debate, doesn't it?

/exactly why are the exact same drugs much more expensive in the US than in other countries?

They have great lobbyists.

And in many ways, it's what the market will bear. Other countries would pay more, too, if their governments hadn't regulated the price down. But those countries have decided that making it so that any person who needs a drug can afford it is more important than the right of a company to make as much profit as they can. But the drug companies still sell drugs in other countries, so they're still making a profit even with regulated prices.

I have radical ideas about drugs and how it should be run, so don't get me started.

So, buy stock in big pharma and use the profits to pay for the drugs you need.

Duh.

Okay, so which troll should I go with? Do I make the obvious post about Capitalism, or should I go a bit more off-the-rails with the hardliner Darwin?

I'm thinking Darwin.

If you can't afford to pay for medication you need to survive, this is life's way of weeding you out of the gene pool. Either get a better job, prioritize your spending by not buying that giant LED backlit LCD TV, or learn to live without as best you can. You have no right to *my* money to pay for your pills.

Maybe no bites here, but you may get a job offer from Fox News.

Am I the only one who read that initially as patient privileges?

//and somebody else should tell it

FTA "Lipitor, the world's top-selling drug ever,"

Something about putting an 'ever' at the end of a statement makes a "citation needed" alarm go off.

/Wikipedia's citation leads to an article that makes the exact same claim... without a citation.

They should have just started testing Lipitor on 6 year olds to extend the patent.

I'd say something more mundane. Tylonal? Asprin?

Not a bite, just a related story. An old high school friend posted some derpy anti-food stamp rant on Facebook a few days ago and when a couple of his other friends and I offered rebuttals, he launched into the usual bootstrappy priorities and anti-entitlement rant citing, among other things, flat-screen TVs as being one of the reasons people can't afford food. (He also suggested hunting for your own food as an alternative to food-stamp reliance... but that is another discussion)

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Flat-Panel become redundant as a way of describing TV's about 5 or 6 years ago? Not to mention the fact that a modest TV can be had for a couple hundred bucks these days. I think it's time for them to update their rhetoric: Flat-panel TVs are cheap and ubiquitous now... it's those fancy iPads that they ought to be concerned with.

Yes and yet they think addressing people not having health care is the reason for people going bankrupt from medical costs when its just out of control costs, why do some countries negotiate deals to cap drug prices yet americans pay full price. The issue with health care is not people going without health care, its the sky high costs of care which even insurance has an issue with paying so you have to jump through hoops to get shiat paid. And now most insurance has a huge deductible you have to meet before you ever start getting shiat covered.

Pharmaceutical companies are greedy and only care about profit?

I'm shocked!
