Here's a somwhat weird question... Tony Stewart's time was disallowed. But why is he shown starting 42nd and not 43rd? Why does J.J. Yeley have to start behind him?

Not that it matters... especially on a restrictor track. Just a geeky curiosity.

Thank goodness. Last week really sucked without a NASCAR thread and no Fark. Plus, I couldn't bring you this from Nascarcasm:

So we can suffer with viewers, every 7 laps they send old guy & kid out to infield grass to fight over mac & cheese or mashed potatoes.

Buttttt TNT promises much fewer commercials so I can't break out the fun pics and all that, so we'll see.

Hopefully Wallmendinger can get a good finish here. And I really pray my fantasy squad doesn't get Townley'd on the first couple laps.

I know it. But I really think TNT is the worst. I've been living on Indycar and TdF from NBC sports network. And really, I should be ignoring anything other than MotoGP for a few weeks.

NASCAR's rules dictate that the 43rd position is reserved for a past champion who doesn't make the race via speed or by a current season owner's points provisional. When Tony's speed was disallowed, he then used a current season provisional and lined up 42nd, pushing Yeley back to 43rd.

Had Bill Elliott's time been disallowed, he would have been forced to use a past champion's provisional since he is driving for a new team that has no points. Kinda confusing, I know.

Yep, after next week, it'$ E$PN NA$CAR race coverage, where you will get 2 minute$ of racing and 3 minute$ of commercial$ every 5 minute$, unle$$ it'$ a caution (where you will mi$$ the wreck, becau$e it happened during the commercial break), at which time you will get 5 minute$ of commercial$ before returning you to the regularly $cheduled 2 minute$ of racing coverage before returning to the next commercial break.

No, that was yesterday's Nationwide (Austin Dillon).

Stewart is the only one with a qualifying time wiped out in this race.

Anyway, it was a pedantic question. None of this matters at a plate race.

Gotcha. I don't twitter, I rely on Google News at best... which obviously is slower. AJ did initially say it was a stomach bug as an excuse (we now know).

Wow, that's pretty shocking. How on earth people in NASCAR touch drugs. There's only 43-ish racers at the top level. You're going to get caught.

Heck, with only 43 racers... I'm surpised its random, and they don't test everyone every week.

Anyway, if true, he's a moron.

Dinger! Noooooooooooo!!

2012-07-07 06:15:55 PM
The test was taken during Kentucky race weekend. Could be anything and I really hope it is minor or his B sample tests negative.

2012-07-07 06:21:17 PM
This news about Dinger gives me a sad. If it's true, I have a ton of sympathy. Someone at that level of accomplishment in sports, business, whatever that uses more than likely has an addiction problem that goes far beyond just being an idiot. I've known a lot of people in addiction and recovery and I despise the idea that they should "just stop." Yeah, they should stop, but it ain't that easy. If it's true, and you're a praying type, then pray for the guy. And while you're at it, say one for Mayfield. I've met AJ and he geniunely comes across as one of the good guys.

I wonder what ever happened to Mayfield.

Strange. He raced yesterday (at the same track), right? You'd figure anyone with Sprint Cup experience that isn't racing in today's race would stick around at least until the start of today's race to see if he's needed as a replacement. It doesn't happen often, yeah... but someone of his caliber (relative to all others who didn't make today's race)... its an extra night in the hotel.

I mean, he's obviously going to make some great cash if he races today.

Who else is out there? Austin Dillon has been dis-allowed. Someone not in the Penske stable... you may have a hard time getting permission from another team.

What are the banned substances? Anyone know?

It's a long list of banned things. One twitter post says since samples A and B are mentioned, it's not alcohol.

Is alcohol banned? Of course I guess it would be if it were taken on raceday, before the race. I always assumed these things were done on an off day or something.

But what do I know? NASCAR keeps every damn thing secret from its fans.

Hornish was scheduled to be on Speed Center which broadcasts from Charlotte - that's why he was there and not still in Daytona.

Nah.....Monster sponsored KyBu's win last night in the (whatever the hell the new name is) Grand National race.

Well.....AJ's failure may go a ways to explain the nickname Wallmendinger.....

Had a shot at tickets on the start/finish line for tonight. Had to pass 'cos I was forced to replace the alternator in the Benz this week....

/$980 for an alternator. Just the part. Seriously. However....the alt that failed was the same one that Mercedes installed 30 years and 225,000 miles ago at the factory.
