Nobility gives soo many damn titles to their members that it really doesnt mean shiat.

2012-07-07 12:54:59 PM
Wow, it's almost like none of this actually matters and they represent things that mean nothing.

The 45-minute service, which was followed by a special parade featuring 400 pipers, was part of the queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations in Scotland marking her 60 years on the throne.

How's that austerity working out for you guys?

Didn't you used to have to slay a dragon or rescue a princess to get to be a knight?

Say what you want about us Yanks across the pond and you'd be right but you have to admit this is some goofy shiat.

I always enjoy reading the comments from Farkers who don't get that people in other countries do things that we don't do here......and that's perfectly okay. If they want to dress up and wear robes and get to be knights, they can do that. It doesn't affect us over here, on this side of the big fish pond.

Dunno about 'higher honor' but the club selection is a whole lot easier.

The Order of the Thistle has the best motto ever:

"Nemo me impune lacessit" = You wouldn't want to see me mad

/Well, "no one provokes me with impunity", if you want the literal version

That's also Scotland's motto. In Scots its "Wha daur meddle wi' me?"

How come no one realizes that the Road Hole is designed for the second shot to be a bump-and-run? If you put your ball in the air, you bring a lot of trouble into play, but that green is receptive to a shot on the ground.

Really?! Because that is the most lying-ass motto ever. I think the history of the Isles pretty much conclusively proves that England could provoke with impunity most of the time. Unless "with impunity" in Scotland is defined as "but that I will lift my kilt, grab my ankles, and take it up the poop-chute with gusto". Hell, Scotland's high point came about because Elizabeth I's uterus was factory-defective; and even then, they managed to get kicked off the throne ... twice - even the sausage-sucking Krauts have had a better record

being in an order of Knights in Europe is as meaningful as becoming a Knight in any of the history/fantasy groups in the USA.

Go to a Starbucks and with your title it still costs just as much to buy your vente double cappachino gellato half and half with a shot of almond.

Damn right. We give them tens of millions a year to live on and all we get back is the hundreds of millions of pounds earned from the crown estate, hundreds of millions more earned in tourism and access to billions of pounds worth of property and land around the world.

When will the Royal family pay their own way!

Actually, given the Queen actually owns most of the UK, she's getting the short end of the stick by allowing the government to collect taxes and give her a small stipend for the Royal Household to live on.

Man, I love the Royal Family. I love them so much.

The jewelry's one of the reasons. The fact that they pretty much only show affection to dogs and horses is another.

Also? I actually think the idea of a politically neutral head of state is pretty freaking awesome. It allows for some unity in patriotic celebration, which we just don't have in the U.S.

Embarrassingly, since I'm a Scotsman in Scotland, you're right. In my defence, nemo me impune lacessit is on the royal crest. In Defens is the national motto.

Wha will fill a coward's grave?
