18 correct, 5 wrong (78% American): "70 percent or higher? You're an American pop culture aficionado. What's more American than the Simpsons and a big ol' jar of mayonnaise, right?"

some_beer_drinker: I don't need any steenking test to tell me i'm Canadian

It takes a real Canadian to score well in an "are you an American" test.

Because we do that better, as well, due to literacy, better blood flow to the brain and whatnot.

78% here.....and I'm not ashamed of any I got wrong.

These things are far more fascinating from the standpoint of "WTF are these questions, anyway?" than anything having to do with the quiz itself. Just take any of the "100 books you absolutely must read before you die" quizzes. Recherche de Temps Perdu is generally juxtaposed with On the Road.....

21/23 right... only two that got me were the Rat Pack (I knew it wasn't Rob Lowe, but I guessed Dean Martin), and the mayo (I guessed salsa because of all those mexicans).

2012-07-07 02:13:50 PM
83%, but I got lucky on a couple

2012-07-07 02:15:20 PM
Hahahahaha...

I got 7 of 23. I'm really, really, out of the loop.

I read the one by THUcydides. How is your version? ;-)

basham: / And if I recall correctly - it wasn't Han Solo who said "I know" when Princess Leia said "I love you." That was Leia's response when Han said "I love you" to her.

mustard is the second most popular condiment behind salt and pepper, where the fark mayo came from I have no idea. The Rat Pack question is invalid because that was not the same Rat Pack. I forget what the other question I got wrong was, but yes it's Cheez Whiz.

//oh yeah, Yankee Doodle

Oak: 87%. I, too, blew the Rat Pack.

So that makes you, Shirley MacLaine and Angie Dickinson then?

Mayo being number one is quite understandable when you take into account the amount of people who stick that nasty stuff on sandwiches etc.

Olfin Bedwere: The most correct answer for the Boston Red Sox one would have been "Not long enough".

Hear! Hear! :-D

OTOH at least we don't have the hear the whining from losing Boston fans when they get eliminated year after year. I got so tired of that growing up. So now they get to come to the sports champions dinner like normal cities. When they win 10 or 12 more, maybe we'll let them sit at the grown-ups table.

Regards,

Joe

Spray cheese aka Easy Cheese is a different animal than Cheez Wiz. Easy cheese goes on crackers, Chees wiz is for makin dip (e.g. queso.)

/semantics - they both have the words processed and "cheese food" on the labels
//gave up on the quiz at the GWTW question as it took to farkin long to load.
///I missed: Catcher in the Rye (dammit! It is set in NYC), the presidential order, Miami Dolphins, Rat pack (Bogie? Really?), Friggin Cheez Wiz AND Lynyrd Skynyrd lyrics.
////DID get the bonus point for knowing Scout Finch's name.

Nah, he's a head case relating how he got where he is. If I remember right The Tin Drum by Gunther Grass does the same thing, except little Oskar is an even bigger head case.

I read it in 6th grade and a lot of it went over my head. I suppose I should reread it at some point...

It's a good read. If you ever feel up to it give The Tin Drum a try too. A heads up though, where as catcher In The Rye is very simple to read, The Tin Drum is college level reading. It was originally written in German, and not all translation of the novel is as smooth as one would hope. It also helps to have historical knowledge about Danzig during WW2. The Tin Drum is well worth the effort.

Also factor in potato salad, macaroni salad, tuna salad, chicken salad, etc, and it makes more sense.

Your Friend says:
"Are you from Canada?"

Why yes, yes I am. I'm also an idiot for second guessing about 5 answers and the flag desecration one is a bit of a trick question... all answers are correct, but my friend is looking for the MOST correct.
