delathi: zabadu: I do have to add that if you don't know who the Rat Pack was, you need to study.

And I agree, WTF was MAYO the most popular?

Besides just putting it on a sammich... tuna salad, potato salad, cole slaw, ranch dressing, rémoulade, tartar sauce, thousand island dressing... all made with mayonnaise

i.imgur.com

It also makes a great snack on the go!

21 correct, 2 wrong - 91%

Didn't know about Bogie...and was okay with not knowing about Cheez Whiz (nasty shiat).

Mrbogey: Missed the Rat Pack, condiment, and Philly Cheesesteak, and Catcher in the Rye question. Maybe it would be more relevant to me if I was a 70yr old Philadelphia English teacher but I don't feel bad.

of all people how could you get the rat pack one wrong?

19/23. I missed those same two (I guessed Frank and salsa) as well as the Catcher in the Rye and the football ones. I got lucky guessing on the baseball question.

To be clear, the cheese whiz used by cheesesteak places in Philly is not the stuff that comes out of a spray can. It's not much better than that, but it is still a different beast altogether.

Also, most places give you free cherry peppers in case you want your stool to be not only loose, but also spicy!

Canadian. Never taught americana in school, just picked some stuff up.

Got 19/23 for 83%.

Missed the Rat Pack (Bogart?), Catcher in the Rye (never read it), Gone With the Wind (never saw or read it) and mayonnaise (really thought it would've been ketchup).

Apparently I need to read more classic American literature and not hard core science fiction and history. Currently reading History of the Peloponnesian War by Thurcydides.

I'm a solid 'B' 'Merican!

And mayo? No wonder we're so fat and unpleasant.

I remember a friend/co-worker of mine that went to Philly and brought me back a cheesesteak. Thankfully it had mozzarella and not cheese whiz.

I don't take quizzes where each question in on a separate page. Increase that page count.

I would have failed anyways.

I missed one :( I thought Ketchup was #1. Though I'm surprised BBQ sauce isn't on the list given all the regional BBQ styles and the sauces that accompany them.

Lsherm: sno man: Philli cheese steak with cheese wiz, really?!?

The Onion is prophetic: Cheez Whiz?

This was a loaded question. I knew the correct answer, but Cheez Wiz wasn't even around for the first 20 or so years cheesesteaks were being sold. They used Provolone. The problem is that NOW a "classic" cheesesteak has Cheez Wiz on it. Revisionist history!

I grew up outside of Philly; my parents are from K&A... And not once in my life has a single motherf*cker in real life considered in my presence putting spray cheese on a cheesesteak. American, occasionally but really the cheese is provolone.

For the record: 78% but the writers of this quiz can go to hell and die.

2012-07-06 11:47:32 PM
Ok, 2 of the food ones are wrong...

Depending on how you measure it, salsa or ketchup are americas #1 condiment, but either way, not mayo.

And provolone is the original cheese of the cheese steak, cheese whiz wasnt invented until the 50s, well after the sandwich was established. Unless you want to be a farking pedant about the meaning of the word "classic"

So 22/23 in that case. Got the rat pack one wrong.

Lauren Bacall coined the term. Bogie and Frank were good friends.

That damn test is rigged...

21. The Red Sox won the World Series in 2004 and 2007. How many years did fans have to wait for the win in 2004?

Too many is a valid and completely American answer, and it ruined my perfect score.

Mayo is a base ingredient for many many other sauces and foods. So by just total amount sold, it it going to surpass salsa and ketchup by quite a lot.
