violentsalvation: You answered 19 of 23 questions correctly for a total score of 83%.

Condiments
cheese steak (WTF?)
rat pack
I don't remember

And some lucky guessing.

Won't spoil the cheese steak one but yeah, WTF indeed.

87%. Freebird, Mayonaise and the Rat Pack questions threw me, but I did know the Rat Pack one, I just misunderstood the question.

2012-07-06 11:12:15 PM
I had no idea Bogart was ever in the Rat Pack.

It most certainly WAS TOO LONG before the Red Sox won a pennant in my lifetime.

WTF kind of cheese was on a Philly cheesesteak before cheez whiz was invented (or mutated into) ?

Mayo and cheese whizz - seriously. I guess the best Americans are more proficient in sandwich assembly.

Catcher in the Rye and Mayo

Mayo makes sense when I think about it though, it's used for more than just a condiment and they make a lot of cole slaw and potato salad in the south.

Interestingly, the Sinatra/Dino/Sammy/etc group never actually referred to themselves as the Rat Pack, they called themselves the Summit or the Clan. The Rat Pack was Bogie's group (of which, Sinatra was a member)

Corn_Fed: Can any Philadelphians confirm the Cheese Whiz? I'm pretty sure that provolone is still considered a true cheesesteak, yes?

I only got it right because I remembered from Diners, Drive-in and Dives that Gino's or Pat's or both uses cheese whiz.

I missed two the brat pack & condiment questions.

2012-07-06 11:14:54 PM
21/2 for a 91% score. Am proud to say that I could not identify the first line of "Free Bird". Missed the condiment question. (I guessed ketchup. Honestly had no idea. Hate mustard, only use mayo in tuna salad.) The rest were dead easy except the cheese steak question, where I flipped a coin. They really should have accepted either provolone or Whiz, since which goes on the "true" version is still hotly contested in Philadelphia. (Which I only know from The Food Network. Have never had a cheese steak in Philly, or a Big Mac anywhere, for that matter. But that damned jingle will be stuck in my head until the day I die, along with "Stairway to Heaven", the theme from "Giligan's Island" and assorted other earwigs.)

rickycal78: Rat Pack, cheese steak, and all the sports questions farked me up. I mean do you really have to give a shiat about baseball or football to be an American?

And cheese whiz for cheese steak? Farking disgusting!

Think about it for a second; before all of these variant condiments like honey-dijon mustard came along, what would've been a common condiment on a sandwich?

Hell, Burger King still puts mayo AND ketchup on their whoppers.

I scored 57%, despite the fact that my entire family has been here since the 1660s, at the latest, including coming over on the Mayflower and the founding of Jamestown, VA; having 8 direct ancestors having fought in the Revolutionary War, a couple having fought in the War of 1812, a handful who fought in the Civil War (including one unfortunate fellow on the Confederate side), etc., etc.

It's too bad that these folks didn't feel the need to educate me and mine on mundane topics...

In reality, this is an "Are you a real Pop Culture and Silly Historical Facts American" kind of test.

Nuclear Monk: How can ketchup not be number one?!!? Who doesn't have ketchup in the fridge? I'm pretty sure it's a federal law to keep a bottle...or at least it should be.

\ really prefers BBQ sauce...

Mayonnaise goes out of date much more quickly, so to keep it we must buy it more often.

78% and the Catcher in the Rye question was a trick question. Yeah, sure, it's a damn flashback, but 90% of the book is about the shiat he's doing in New York City. If you remember the damn book, not the damn trivia questions about the damn book, you probably answered New York City, too.

All the other ones I got wrong required a Y chromosome. Like giving a red hot fark about sports or the rat pack.

Missed the Rat Pack, condiment, and Philly Cheesesteak, and Catcher in the Rye question. Maybe it would be more relevant to me if I was a 70yr old Philadelphia English teacher but I don't feel bad.
