At 2.500 degrees F, many chemical compounds start to break down or are already broken down by the heat. Depending on exactly what's in the glass, it can produce a flame. Seeing flame coming out of a large volume of molten glass exposed to the air isn't exactly anything unusual.

Holy crap. Do you train for molten glass fires in standard training? I hoped to find pictures of the glassy mass frozen as it spilled out of the hole.
