"Accurate" is relative. The thermometer is your car is likely showing a relatively accurate temperature for where it is.

Shut up, Nic.

It's an insulated enclosed space. Of course it's going to be hotter in the car than it is outside.

You can get the senor caliberated, but Linsenmayer says it's not really worth the effort.

I can never seem to find anyone willing to "caliberate" my Senor.

I took one because my car hit 666 miles the other day when it was genuinely 105 degrees outside, breaking the record high by 6 degrees. I was amused.

I had a car with a thermometer that would sometimes drop to -40 even in the summer. If only I'd known that a photo could gain me internet fame.

The car would turn off AC when the indicated temperature dropped below freezing. That was annoying rather than amusing.

My car's thermometer is stuck at 140° and has been for months now. I should post it on Facebook right away!

I've been calling shenanagains on my car's thermometer, and been posting said shenanagains to my FB. 104 my left foot!

mine reads the same as the ambient temp. in today's case, 103º.

Caliberated?

Mine is always wrong when you first turn it on, but after about 10 minutes of driving, it matches up with the "official" temperatures pretty well.

Or, OR... You could suck a dick. All my northern friends can't tell the diff between 105 and 109 anyway.

What part of the Mexican do you adjust??

2012-07-06 07:30:42 PM
I guess its the car, because mine reads pretty close to the NWS readings. Not of course, after sitting in direct sunlight in a parking lot all day.

I read the headline at cat's thermometre and didn't know what the fark was going on Facebook. Still don't really.

Ther-mo-me-tre.

Thermometre.

It's a weird word, say it a few times.

The thermometer in my tractor showed it was 113 degrees in Maspeth, Queens the other day. I took a picture of it. And posted it on Facebook.

Then I turned the AC up. With the tractor brakes off and the trailer brakes on. That way the computer in the truck doesn't count me as 'idling'.

2012-07-06 07:35:10 PM
It wasn't uncommon to get into into my truck and have the thermometer around 125 when I lived in Phoenix, then it would drop anywhere from 10-15 degrees when moving. Even then I figured there was probably a good 10 degree margin of error on those things.

A friend who still lives there starts posting these pics around June/July.

Now that I park it in a garage and just drive out to get beers it usually reads either 20 lower in the summer or 20 higher in the winter. It takes a long time to react. If you bought a car just to tell the temp you are doing it wrong. This is much more accurate and costs tens of thousands less.

Huh? Who has a vehicle with a factory installed interior thermometer?

In heat such as what we're experiencing in the Mid-Atlantic region it would be reasonable to see 140-160F inside a car interior.

at least your not in Baghdad. They get 120s and higher regularly. Imagine what that looks like after your car has been cocking in a parking lot. (And you are wearing 70lbs of kit and armor).

When I got out of work today, at 2pm, I used an IR thermometer to see how hot my car was. The air temp inside the car was 155ºF. The temp of my leather driver's seat, which was in the sunlight, was 182ºF.

It's hot. It was probably hot last year. It's probably going to be hot next year.

We're all in the same situation.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY.

My car is a truck, it doesn't have a "thermometer," and it's black and hot in the sun.

You?

P.S. *You* can afford more taxes: it's the right thing to do, resource-hogger.

2012-07-06 07:57:01 PM
Well, duh... because in late July and early August it is obviously 130-150 degrees outside, but only where I park.

When I drive more than 200 yards from that spot, it drops to 105 or so.

I read it the same way. I was thinking, "WTF are they doing? Taking a rectal thermometer reading of their cat and posting its expression on Fb?" At least wait for Caturday.

/has seen temps upwards of 135° on the car when parked on blacktop in the sun
