I've played Minecraft on and off for about a year and just about managed to build a one-floor house with some glass and some benches. I don't see where these people get the time. I'd spend a couple of hours a night and not make much progress. One thing that helped was to make a bed so I didn't have to wait out the nights.

I wonder how many man-hours this took.

Remember these guys aren't doing the SMP (survival) mode that you are probably using. They're in the no-mob creative mode, all resources are granted via console, and likely using tools to build up or clear out huge areas with a single click and of course full flight.

That's not to diminish the effort, it still likely took them hundreds of hours and lots of planning, but it's not a couple guys digging for each block of resource.

This Himeji castle time-lapse shows it only takes a couple of in-game days to build the massive structure if you have a plan and unlimited resources

Building something out of "digital Legos" that's already being built, quite well and quite famously, out of sets and decent CGI does seem a little odd. For no benefit other than to say it was done? It's not even art it's just...there.

So, wait... you are actually using the fact that your work is often passively fanned through before being misplaced back on the shelf as your point of credence here?

Like, you sat down, and said to yourself, these people spent a lot of time and effort on something they thought was neat that appeals to a limited audience most people are not part of, they must be retarded for wasting that kind of time and effort; and didn't make the farking connection with what you've apparently decided to do with your life?

This is like the kid I went to college saying it was hotter than a Jew in a gas chamber in the room, and then telling the offended people that it was okay, he was German.

I've seen some pretty impressive stuff on PvE servers before. I've built a couple of large-scale projects, but nothing I've wanted to show off yet.

My 6 year old does. Enough to beg me to purchase it, which I did as an incentive. I was truly impressed with the things he built, and I'm not talking a simple 1-story house. He made a city. A whole, freaking city with secret tunnels that were completely hidden with no indications for anyone else to realize they were there.

Now I get it. It's simple, yet evokes amazement when I start a new seed. I'm warming up to the creative part now, but still enjoy the effort it takes to be able to carry it out (i.e., survive the first night, gather supplies, create tools, arm yourself, etc.).

If you don't have an imagination or an artistic ability, then you won't get it. Maybe something with defined goals is more to your taste.

There are also excellent LP versions of Minecraft on You tube. Yogcast (Duncan, Sjin, Sips, Simon, Louis... and the rest) NakaTeleeli JamziboyMinecraft, and MonkeyFarmer. (I'm a dwarf and I diggy a hole. Diggy diggy diggy a hole) =P

If you're bored with vanilla mine craft. There are mod out there that will blow your mind. Mods like Tekkit, Tecnic, Yog Box, Hackslashmine, millienaire, better dungeons, mo creatures, so on and so on.

Awesome vanilla work can be found on the MindCrack server. Almost everyone on that server has a LP. Zisteau, Etho, VintageBeef, and Guude all have some amazing projects. Hell, everyone there is awesome, but those four are the bulk of what I follow there. (I also follow Kurtjmac, but he's not as much of a builder.)

I've been on a multiplayer server with some friends for about a year, and some of the things those guys have made are nuts. Me personally, I'm more of an explorer. Out there wandering the landscape, seeign whats over the next hill, or wandering deep into holes in the ground in search of iron and diamond. And of course theres my sheep farm and watermelon plantations.

But apart from a treehouse, the only thing I've spent any time building is my "Come at me bro!" sheep statue.

As someone who spends hours down in the mines risking his life against skeletons, creepers, and ghasts, to bring up a few blocks of iron, redstone and some occasional treats like lapis lazuli, it's very hard for me to admire anything that's done in creative mode.
