WordsnCollision: "What most people don't know is that dyeing a companion animal's fur can cause the animal stress and can lead to complications or allergic reactions that endanger the animal's health."

Whew, didn't know that. So, uh, would tattooing be OK?

Babwa Wawa: Bezoar: Babwa Wawa: A pet is a living being. When you dye an animal, you're making the statement is that it's a fashion accessory. It's no more to you than a handbag or a shirt, and it exists purely as an extension of your own ego. It doesn't reflect well on the human who does it.

That having been said animals are still animals. Some of them taste good.

That's the dumbest thing I've read today. So if someone dressed their son/daughter in a costume/outfit to match theirs (or for no reason), that means their child means nothing to them? It's not that, maybe, they just think IT LOOKS CUTE. Not everything's a bloody farking statement.

Actually, I think it's a pretty appropriate analogy. If you put a bow in your kid's hair, or a cute sweater on your kid, that's pretty normal. Same thing as if you put a bow on your dog.

But like most things, it's a matter of degree. If I dye my kids' hair and put a clip-on nose ring on him or put her in a swim suit and parade her in front of strangers, that crosses the threshold into legal but creepy. It does reflect on my own personality and how I view my child. Likewise, if I start dying my f*cking dog, it reveals something about me and how I view my dog.

Yes, it reveals that you view a harmless change to the aesthetics of your pet as a harmless change to the aesthetics of your pet. A dog does not have dignity or pride to harm. IT'S AN ANIMAL.

If you think someone loves their pet less because they think it'd be cute bright blue, that's damned foolish.

If you think they have too much money to spent, you might be right.

LOL. Was the first thing I read at all today actually, but I thought "the dumbest thing I have or will read in the next 1-3 minutes" doesn't quite convey as much disdain.

Can't disagree with you there. But it does show the extent to which the owner views the dog as an object (fashion accessory) rather than a living being.

I don't necessarily think that it indicates they love them any less. I think it indicates they love them differently - like they'd love a car, purse, or house. And yes, you don't have to search far to find people who love their car or house more than their pet.

I've never dyed a pet, nor really cared to. If I were, say, getting my cat groomed and they offered to dye her green? You know what I might take them up on the offer, not because I view my cat as a fashion accessory, but because I'd think it was interesting or funny or just plain weird to have a green cat for awhile. And no, I wouldn't love her differently OR less, because I view her as living creature with a distinct and wonderful personality (catality?) that I enjoy for companionship and sometimes amusement.

I just don't get how you can think there's only one reason someone might change the look of their pet. It's just dumb reasoning.

You guys are missing the point. The issue isn't that they dyed their pets fur, it's that the dye used was first tested on animals.

What did you expect from a group that calls fish "sea kittens" so that children will be horrified at their parents for eating salmon, and use naked women in demeaning situations for all of their protests?

Once, it may have been about the animals. Now it's money and attention, especially with all the Hollywood actors and actresses jumping on board. Double the whoring, double the derp.

What do you mean "what did you expect"? You assume people are just as omniscient as you Believe you are?

A LOT of people think PETA is just another animal care foundation type of thing, as I used to. Many people simply don't have exposure to all of everything, and couldn't really give a fark about some people that really like animals..or whatever.

Just doing my part to spread the word, they're farking nuts, and I even cited a source, their own loony mouths(which can be seen on the show I talked about).

Of course you're right. But you evaluate others based on the array of visual and behavioral cues available to you. When I see someone buying PBR wearing black frame glasses without lenses and a t-shirt that says "groovy", I think "that's a hipster."

When I see a fashion model who's known for such deep thoughts as "I want the attention, I love the attention" and "I love little teddy bears and little fluffy animals. I buy them all the time" and "I'm as vain as everybody else, but if I see a mirror I have to look at myself" and she happens to be carrying a dog dyed multiple colors, I think "that's a narcissist who views her dog as an object."

I'm pretty sure that assessment's accurate.

Chihuahuas, because people like this treat them like a toy rather than a dog.

Dude, what the hell is wrong with you? I make a snarky comment about PETA and you attack me. Did you think I was DEFENDING those dipshiats or something? We're on the same side here, how about controlling your combative nature for a minute or so.

Observing that someone who dyes their dog purple and pink is likely to view it as an object is simply an observation.

I'll also observe that someone who starts in with namecalling on the Internet is probably a bigger asshole than me.

I'm not sure what you're on about. But my observation is not prejudice. Prejudice, at least how you're using it is:

"unreasonable feelings, opinions, or attitudes, especially of a hostile nature, regarding a racial, religious, or national group"
or
"an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason"

There's plenty of reason to think that someone who would go to the time, trouble and expense of dying a f*cking dog might not really look at it as a dog.

Besides that, given this vacuous twatwaffle's documented history, it can't really be termed prejudice, can it?

I wince whenever I see pink dyed yippy dogs, but the dye is made from beet root. It's not going to stress the animal out and it's not going to give them an allergic reaction.

Also, I don't think dogs see reds very well, so I doubt the dogs would look pink to themselves, if they even looked at themselves, which I don't think they do. I don't think they have that kind of body awareness.

Peta is so dumb it's like they're trying to embarrass themselves.

Dogs can see colors, but they're just not as intense or rich as the ones we see. Weird, since a lot of dog toys are sold that are colored either red or orange. The dog probably couldn't care less about the color. All it cares about is that it has something to play with.

You're pretty incensed I see. I'm not now, nor have I ever, argued against dying animals. I really don't give a fark what you do with your animal. It's yours. It's your property. You could cook it up and eat it for all I care. I don't think dying a dog is cruel, and I don't think the dog gives a shiat one way or the other.

However, I do observe that every person I've met who has dyed their dog views it as a fashion accessory rather than a companion. That's what I've said in various ways throughout the thread, and I've seen nothing to convince me otherwise. Yes theoretically I suppose someone might have another reason to dye their dog pink and purple and still view it as a companion. But certainly nobody in this thread has presented me with a real-life example. Possibly because nobody wants to admit to being self-absorbed enough to dye their dog.

Anyway, if you don't want to be judged as someone who views their animal as a fashion accessory, don't do the same things that people who view their animals as fashion accessories do.

No, it's an observation of people I've met who've dyed their dogs and the twat in this article. There's also a difference between behavior you voluntarily engage in and skin color, which you can't choose and has no reliable bearing on behavior or character anyway.

Yeah. That's it. Look, if you want to have a civil discussion on this or any other topic, come back in another thread. But you'll have to get an alt, because I'm putting you on ignore.

This is the second thread in recent days where I've seen you come in late to a thread and put your abhorrent personality on full display, throwing insults at reasonable people with whom you have a simple disagreement over pretty minor and tame topics. You must be a miserable guest to have around, what with your outrageously strong opinions, your baseless notion that you're always right, your inability to internalize and comprehend points in a civil debate, and your tendency to issue vague accusations of racism.

What a mess you are.

To quote King Missile(and repurpose it):

See, look, I know I'm homophobic, but not about gay guys. They don't bother me at all. It's straight guys who don't know their gay... they fark my shiat right up.

Like a guy calls me up and says, "A bunch of us guys are gonna sit around in our underwear and watch the football game and drink beer and eat chips and, you know, maybe wrestle with each other, just us guys. You wanna come over?" And I'm like, "No."

I have no problems with irrational and unintelligent people, it's "smart" people that that don't know they're irrational and unintelligent, they fark my shiat right up.

Like a guy on the internet who posts to me on the internet, "I guess that they all are self absorbed, that is an observation", and I'm like... "No".
