It's unclear whether Cupp knew of her role in the pilot. Reached by e-mail, she didn't want to talk about McCotter.

And she's not mum about much. Lulz.

McCotter tries to ask serious questions of the columnist, while his sidekicks chime in by asking how she "keeps that great stripper bod?" and whether "D-Cupp" is dating anyone. In the script, Cupp is disgusted by the "train wreck" of the show.

That is horrendously bad in every way, but since this is Fark, I have no qualms about announcing my own opinion that S.E. Cupp is absolutely slammin'.

I went to high school with Thad...I know him pretty well...partied with him a lot in high school. He got me involved with the GOP in the late 80's and I was elected a precinct and state delegate. Part of the reason I switched to the Libertarian Party in 1990 is what I witnessed during those conventions (the religious right gaining power to take over the party). The last time I spoke to him was about 8 years ago at a fundraiser (my parents were supporters so I was invited). He asked why I left the GOP and I told him I can't support a party that doesn't believe in individual liberty and smaller government (legalized gay marriage, drugs, prostitution) and that the religious right takeover that we saw begin in the late 80's was complete. His response to that was more what a politician would say than someone I've known for 20 years...more or less that if people like me would come back to the party and fight for those things, that the GOP would return to something more normal. I told him it wasn't about people like me, it was about the leadership of the party and it was too far gone. I seem to have been a bit prophetic as they aren't getting more mainstream...they've gone off the deep-end.

Honestly, I'm surprised that he lasted as long as he did. He was unconventional by GOP terms and not really popular with the GOP leadership because he was somewhat outspoken and didn't vote lock-step with the party. It wouldn't surprise me if external forces didn't subvert his re-election rather than overzealous staffers. It would have been easy for him to gather the 2000 signatures since he was popular in my district.

That all being said...he's not insane, he just has a twisted and self-effacing sense-of-humor...he always has.

I got the impression that was quite mainstream GOP with the exception that he voted for the auto bailout. His vote for the bailout couldn't be unpredictable considering his south east Michigan, auto industry heavy district. I guess one vote is all that is required to be labeled a renegade in today's GOP.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was external forces that undercut his reelection efforts.

There is clearly a niche for Republican women who play Sexy Librarian. At least she went to Cornell, so she's not a complete retard like Palin.

I would have voted for him out of the candidates, but he never polled high enough to get into the debates because of lack of name recognition.

I love that "I'm not inclined to go into lobbying" angle. Might it have anything to do with the fact that you alienated yourself from your party and your constituents with your goofiness and creepiness? That you are now a punchline? That the best job you could get at a lobbying firm right now is bicycle courier?

Show me someone who leaves Congress after a successful career and announces that he's not inclined to go into lobbying, and then follows that up by not going into lobbying, and I'll be impressed.

No, Thad, you stay in your garage, keep smoking, and keep writing your screenplays.

All work and no play makes Thad a dull boy.
