And I don't expect to hear a peep about this from the MSM Lamestream Libbiest Libral Media that ever Libbed.

They tossed justices out in the 19th century for getting too partisan. They should toss Thomas too. Sorry, it's bullshiat.

PAC? SHE gets millions to influence her husband! The idea that paying your wife a bribe instead of you makes it ok is bullshiat.

Regardless of your politics, Thomas is just a farking horrible justice. I can live with the other partisan justices on both sides since they appear to be intelligent if nothing else. This guy you could replace with a farking turnip for all he adds to the Court.

The story about Justice Roberts hemming and hawing over his ObamaCare decision, which made him look indecisive.

What a rag. The entire article is baseless speculation.

A conservative Supreme Court Justice knows a reporter who covers the Supreme Court and is conservative. That's all I needed to hear- let's run with it.

Impeachment. Good luck getting that out of today's Congress, though.

No. The Democrats do not control the House. And impeaching an ideological conservative justice would be like throwing gas onto the fire of a country strained by a polarized electorate.

Better to just let the Republican party die a slow horrible death.

I wonder... Since the vote didn't go the conservatives way, does that mean Thomas to pay his bribe money back?

2012-07-06 11:17:04 AM
In a 2009 interview on C-Span, Justice Thomas singled her out as a favorite reporter. "There are wonderful people out here who do a good job - do a fantastic job - like Jan Greenburg," Justice Thomas said, referring to Ms. Crawford by her married name at the time.

I think the thing that was a big deal about the leak was that she said that Roberts initially wanted to vote down the mandate, but keep the rest of the law as he believed it was constitutional, but the four other conservative judges wanted to strike down the whole ACA as unconstitutional, based on the mandate. Since they all wouldn't budge, he basically said well fark you then and went to the liberals, who at the time were keeping the mandate as it was written. He told them he'd vote with them if they changed it to a tax, so they did.

The guy is bought and paid for plain and simple.

Thanks, Poppy Bush. Clarence Thomas and Dubya. What a legacy you've left the country.

2012-07-06 11:59:18 AM
I don't think his wife exerted much influence over him. We knew Clarence Thomas was a shameless partisan, and was going to vote in a shamelessly partisan way. Assuredly, the appearance of impropriety is something that Supreme Court judges should probably be a bit more careful of, but I don't think those millions his wife made had much of an impact on his eventual vote.

2012-07-06 12:00:10 PM
Interestingly, this doesn't make Roberts look bad at all. It makes the conservative Justices seem like partisan hacks. Of course, I am not considering the derp brigade in this line of thinking.

Not necessarily, no - Roberts's opinion noted strong precedent about the court invalidating laws as a matter of last resort, a very well-established principle. If labeling it a tax would allow it to pass constitutional muster, then the court must do so (absent specific language in the statute stating it is not a tax). It's not pretty, but that is a basic application of statutory interpretation.

Hah, typical Democrat apologists. Absolutely zero sense of scale. The government leaks top secret national security data and it's no big deal. Someone leaks that John Roberts switched his position on the ACA ruling and you start calling for impeachment based on the fact that one of the justices mentioned the reporter at one point.

2012-07-06 12:06:33 PM
The more I read the decision the more it seems the riff between Roberts and the other conservative justices is more on a personal level than just a professional disagreement. In one way it is a shame considering these justices are supposed to represent the "intellectual elite" and have a "higher wisdom" than the other branches of government have devolved into the same petty partisan bickering which has crippled the other branches of government. It also makes me wonder if this personal riff between Roberts and the other conservative justices might have tipped the balance on the SCOTUS a little. Will Roberts continue to caucus with the liberal justices just to spite the conservative justices who pretty much threw him under the bus?

It certainly makes a lie that the justices actually decide cases on constitutionality.

Yeah, Thomas is a scumbag. I'm pretty sure that after all the ethical lapses he's had, breaching the confidentiality of an in-chambers discussion is pretty small potatoes.

Let's see, Boobieshe complaint filed with the Missouri Bar Office of Chief Disciplinary Counsel, after Hizzoner failed to report his wife's lobbying income for 20 years and that Citizens United had spent $100,000 in support of his nomination.

Then there's his relationship with Harlan Crow, a Texas real estate mogul and AEI Trustee who has financed a Clarence Thomas library, provided half a million dollars to Ms. Thomas to found a Tea Party group, presented Hizzoner with a $15K Lincoln bust and a Frederick Douglass bible, and donated money to a museum in Thomas' home town at the personal request of the judge. That's not to mention the yacht rides, private jet flights, and retreats in the Adirondacks, of course.

Then there's his wife's political activities. In 2009, while Citizens United was being deliberated, she sets up a 501(c)4 called Liberty Central that immediately receives that Harlan Crow half a million. This, naturally, led to some problems, so as soon as the 2010 election was past, Ginni skips town and starts up her own lobbying firm called Liberty Consulting, where she immediately starts meeting with freshmen Republicans as "a bridge between the conservative establishment and the tea party." She also writes for the Daily Caller, Tucker Carlson's rag, and was working for the Heritage Foundation until 2009.

Clarence Thomas also attended a Koch brothers retreat back in 2008, and lied about it, both on his disclosure reports and in the media. That was with Scalia and supposedly paid for by the Federalist Society, and was apparently four days in Palm Springs on somebody else's dime.

I think that about covers all of them. I wouldn't be surprised if there's more skeletons in his closet, however.

Hell no. If Thomas leaked, Scalia must have leaked first.
