(Deadspin)   Dear WSVN: Before exclusively reporting that Miami has signed Ray Allen, you might want to check to see if that Twitter source is real (w/video)   (deadspin.com) divider line 17

Sports reporting is kind of like CNN's Supreme Court snafu - all the time, every time.

"THIS JUST IN. We have unconfirmed rumors that so-and-so was traded to blah-blah team." The next day: "Well nevermind. Looks like he went to whatever-whatever other team instead."

WSVN... at least their sister station WHDH is usually better at actual news...

Oh memories of my youth. I used to be a video editor at that station... Rick Sanchez, Jillian Barberie, Holly Herbert were all there. Cool job but only got paid 8 bucks an hour for editing the entire Deco Drive show on the daily without any supervision.

I worked at that crucial juncture back in which the nightly news lineup was 'all Elian Gonzalez, all the time'.

Did Sanchez ever set up a perimeter around you while sweating profusely? Because every night, no matter what story, it seemed it was that.

It was funny... He was the highest paid person at the station, by far, and the type of guy who people revered for being important while at the same time incessantly making fun of him behind his back as soon as he passed by... He really was a doofus, as he clearly evidenced later in his career. I remember a secret tape floating around the newsroom where someone compiled all the idiotic things he said on-air, such as, "one good thing about 9-11, is that there are currently no reported fatalities of South Floridians..." [followed by awkward on-air silence]

WSVN actually checking their sources before reporting on their sensationalistic stories?

Surely you jest subby.
