(YouTube)   Bad: You lose your power due to a storm. Worse: It's off for 6+ days with temperatures in the mid 90s. Fark: You write a song about how bad Pepco power is at clearing trees (warning: profanity)   (youtube.com) divider line 64

hah. years of their parents whining about power rates, years of deregulation, and years of bashing the union (who typically like to keep full crews on call, but get overruled by the suits and the politicians)

ta effin da. Six days to clear a tree from a storm in an urban area. Pretty amazing stuff.

While this is amusing, they do come off like whining little d-bags.

It's Pepco Power's job to clear trees? I always thought the city took care of that.

I love how the local conservative radio stations have tried to spin the power outages as a governmental failure. Stating over and over this is just more proof the government can't do anything right.

HUH?

If anything, this is a corporate failure because they cut work crews to the bone and have to bring in repair crews from states up and down the eastern seaboard.

So they need candles for light and they're "acoustic by circumstance", but the digital camera's all charged up and they didn't have any problems uploading to youtube.

The city won't touch trees with power line in them.

So I've got this chainsaw sitting here, and I get bored pretty easily. Why would I wait for the city or someone else to handle it? The power's off, so it's not like the wires are live...

The owner of the trees is responsible for maintaining utility easements. Power companies may trim trees (without you're permission) but are not required to do so.

But why take responsibility when you can blame big electricity or some such nonsense.

MixxMaster: oh noes, the poor hipsters are upset and whining again...

Yes people should just accept having a completely inept power company that doesn't bother to employ enough people, basically admits that if people don't call over and over they won't know who is still without power and apparently had no plans for what to do in case of something really bad.

If a tree falls during a storm onto power lines or becomes entangled in downed lines, the utility takes care of it. It's their job at that point.

Power "companies" are GOVERNMENT MONOPOLIES that are OVER-REGULATED. You liberals are such incredible douche bags. Seriously. Over-regulation and (again) lack of COMPETITION causes these problems. These power "companies" does a little as possible to maintain lines... why? UNIONS and GOVERNMENT REGULATION. If they faced COMPETITION, things would improve dramatically, because the MARKET would force them to innovate and improve or fall behind and eventually get run out by more ambitious, efficient COMPANIES.

It's amazing how so many of you incredibly shallow-thinking "government solves problems" dickwads can't see the forest here for the trees. You honest think socialism is the way to go. It boggles the rational mind that understands human nature and actual free market competition.

And I'm sure you're going to say "Capitalism causes greed and the rich get richer!" LMAO! That's liberal code-talk for "We don't want to compete or have to work hard, so we'll just blame those who do work hard and make them the bad people". Typical liberal asshattery.

"Deregulation" caused the problem? LMAO!

My God, this REPUBLIC is doomed. Well, it's already doomed now that "mandates" to engage in commerce are considered "taxes", but there's no way this REPUBLIC survives another 30 years with you idiots in charge.

The only way to effectively improve performance and quality is through FREE MARKET COMPETITION. The Commerce Clause in the US CONSTITUTION (you really should read it sometime and stop being douche bags) was to prevent states from enacting trade barriers amongst themselves NOT TO GIVE THE GOVERNMENT POWER TO REGULATE ALL FORMS OF COMMERCE. Shame on you tools.

So thank the GOVERNMENT for issues such as these. Thank UNIONS. Thank Democrats (really Communists). Thank yourselves for supporting this garbage.

You liberals are all beyond stupid.

You know, it wasn't all that long ago that practically nobody had air conditioning in their home. Now we act like there's no way someone can survive without it in Maryland and northern Virginia. It's not death valley. Yeah, it's hot. Go outside and sit in the shade and shut up.

6+ days, eh? Those, poor, poor people. An ice storm in 2007 hit OKC especially hard. My 98 (at the time) year old grandmother was without power for over 2 weeks. Even after the debris was cleared and power was restored to her neighborhood, she was still without power because connections between the meter and fuse (yes, fuse) box had been stressed. A couple of her grandkids repaired it for her, new breaker box and all. I don't recall her biatching about it for even a moment.

Or I dunno, go to a movie, or the mall, or to work. 90+% of the area has power now. If you can't get yourself to an air conditioned space it's your own fault, except for very very few people.

I know you think you're special 'cause your parents paid for college
Without even really working you were spoonfed all this "knowledge"
And between the weed smoking and half assed philosophy classes
You white kids felt like right adults without getting off your asses
But now your life's first hardship is here and you don't know what to do
I mean come things always work out the way you want them to
It's not like you're asking for a lot, just for things to go your way
It's not fair you can't catch a break after catching breaks every day
I wonder if you white kids with your hipster flat and brick wall
Understand some people don't have air conditioning at all

F*ck you white kids
Some us of deal with the heat
F*ck you white kids
I'm sick of hearing why you don't eat meat
F*ck you white kids
Don't you have anything better do do?
F*ck you white kids
No you probably don't

No, the power lines are their responsibility, the tree owner must still remove the tree. They may remove their lines from the downed tree, but they are not responsible to remove the tree.

I talked to a few of the Allegheny Power in Western Maryland and they have to call a different crew in to remove debris from the lines. They only work on the actual power lines, not on the trees that have knocked down the power lines.
