yobbery: We have a weather related emergency going on here at Casa de Yobbery. It's under control now.
We noticed the basement carpet was wet and then discovered the utility room was flooded. There was so much water I was sure it was the 3 month old water heater, but I couldn't find anything leaking at the water heater or the washer.

The wife noticed water in odd spots, particularly around the furnace. It turns out that the drain tube for the AC condenser was partially clogged. The damn thing has been running all day and the drain flow couldn't keep up with how much water it's been pulling out of the air. Between the shop vac and the carpet shampooer we must have pulled up at least six gallons of water so far!

Fortunately the man cave is part of an addition and there's a concrete wall separating it from the utility room, so no water got in there.
The cats insisted on helping...so we let them.

A friend of my cousin just posted this in FB. I'm still laughing...

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE PETS, THIS IS A TRUE STORY.
FOR THOSE THAT DON'T, IT'S ALSO A TRUE STORY.
The following was found posted very low on a refrigerator door.

Dear Dogs and Cats:
The dishes on the floor with the paw prints are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Placing a paw print in the middle of my plate does not mean that is suddenly your food,
nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.

The stairway was not designed by NASCAR and is not a racetrack.
Racing me to the top of the stairs is not the object.
Tripping me doesn't help because I fall faster than you can run.

I cannot buy anything bigger than a king sized bed. I am very sorry about this.
Do not think I will continue sleeping on the couch to ensure your comfort.
Dogs and cats can actually curl up in a ball when they sleep.
It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other, stretched out to the fullest extent possible.
I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out on the other end
to maximize space that you are taking up, is nothing but sarcasm.

For the last time, there is no secret exit from the bathroom!
If, by some miracle, I beat you there and manage to get the door shut,
it is not necessary to claw, whine, meow,
try to turn the knob or get your paw under the edge in an attempt to open the door.
I must exit through the same door I entered.
Also, I have been using the bathroom for years - canine/feline attendance is not required.

The proper order for kissing is: Kiss me first, then go smell the other dog or cat's (or your own) butt.
I cannot stress this enough.

Finally, in fairness, dear pets, I have posted the following message on the front door:
TO ALL NON-PET OWNERS WHO VISIT AND COMPLAIN ABOUT OUR PETS:

(1) They live here....you don't.
(2) If you don't want their hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture.
That's why they call it "fur"-niture.
(3) I like my pets a lot better than I like most people.
(4) To you, they are animals.
To me, they are adopted sons/daughters who are short, hairy, walk on all fours and don't speak clearly.

Remember, dogs and cats are better than kids because they:
(1) eat less,
(2) don't ask for money all the time,
(3) are easier to train,
(4) normally come when called,
(5) never ask to drive the car,
(6) don't hang out with drug-using people;
(7) don't smoke or drink,
(8) don't want to wear your clothes,
(9) don't have to buy the latest fashions,
(10) don't need a gazillion dollars for college and
(11) if they get pregnant, you can sell their children.......

Hi gang! So my husbandman decided we need to stop free feeding. Our cats have coloe coded fatness. Kamiyama and Takenouchi (the yellows) are skinny no matter what. Percy and Jack (the blacks) are sort of fat but the Vet says they are fine but should not gain weight. Victoria and Elizabeth (the grays) are fatties and can not be trusted to free feed. Tori looks like she has udders. Anyway, we now feed them and when thy are done we put away the extra food. Last night, i found that Takenouchi had covered his food plate with a napkin. I think he was trying to hide the food from us. XD

I agree wholeheartedly.. and the 'fixer' in me wants to help.. instinctual....

I know the feeling.
On another note...
I used to have a Celestron C-8 SCT with a Super Polaris mount and a collection of magnificent
eyepieces. For those that don't know telescopes, the magnification of a telescope is in the eyepiece.

I sold it to a friend about 5 years ago because he had always wanted a "big boy telescope" and I needed money.
I've missed that telescope, but I knew it was in good hands,

My friend called me the other night and said he was thinking about getting rid of it since he's only
used it once since he bought it. He recently retired and he and his wife are looking to clear out
their extra "stuff".

I asked him how much he wanted, and he offered to *give* it back to me.

My tiny heart grew 5 sizes that night!

it doesn't get really cold here (well, I don't really feel the cold anyway), except in Canberra. I'd be quite happy until it drops below -10degC, which is unlikely. I live in Brisbane, which is best in winter, the summers are much too hot, the winters make life bearable. Doesn't stop other people from complaining about the cold though.

If you have a USB memory stick handy, copy the download to it and have Symantec scan it on the desktop machine. If it says it's ok, go ahead and install it. Or send me the link from where you downloaded it and I'll grab a copy and scan it with Kaspersky.

The desktop is dead.

But Mr. Witch found Gimp that will download onto Windows Vista 64.

That is probably the problem. Vista sucks.

Thanks :-)

Also, Hi to the other Oregonians! Even with it being in the 80's, it's still so lovely in the morning and evenings. Our apartment stays very cool too, and our balcony is in the shade. This is a great summer so far, compared to where we were last year!

The strawberries are sooo much better :-)

I've had the toy below for at least a dozen years. My previous cat loved it, and my current ones also play with it (though not quite as passionately.)

I have a cat questions for you cat experts. I have one cat. He had FHV as a kitten so based on what I understand he still have FHV. So can I never get another cat? Are there FHV positive cats I could adopt? I am going to ask my vet, but I thought I'd ask you guys too. I understand that all cats are vaccinated for FHV but it sounds like the vaccine does not prevent the disease- it just makes it less severe.

Cat in question:
i37.photobucket.com

Backstory:
My boyfriend's mom bought Freckles 15 years ago from some kind of breeder. She got a discount because he had FHV (as a young kitten, but he survived). As the boyfriend's parents got older they got tired of Freckles Bengal tendencies like loud meowing, playing in water, and generally being a playful social cat. So Freckles lives with us now. He is a great cat for us because he is fearless, loves dogs, loves playing, and gets a lot of attention which keeps the extremely loud meowing to a minimum. Freckles FHV doesn't seem to flare up although he occassionally will sneeze but he is never really sick or loses weight and he always eats (I feed him canned food for breakfast and dinner and he eats dry food in between).

My parents live out in the country and they see a lot of stray or completely feral cats running around. There was a shy cat that started coming around their house and was extremely friendly and a few weeks later it became obvious that she was pregnant. They started feeding her and took her into their home (they have another cat, pregnant cat was put in a quarantined spare bedroom) and now she has had 6 kittens. They are going to have the 'barnyard special' spay/neuter when the kittens are old enough and are trying hard to find them homes. Kittens in question:

The pictures of the store cat reminded me of a pet store that had a resident cat years ago. I went in for some catnip, and out of the thirty or so brands they stocked, only one container had teeth marks on it. I automatically assumed that was the best brand.

IMHE, cats get bored with the same toys, try rotating them from time to time, or add a bit of catnip to make them more interesting. As others have said, what you may consider a piece of trash could be an awesome toy. A milk jug ring or a bottle cap can provide hours of fun. Dragon recommends that if you have a dollar store near you, look in the craft section for the 12" long colored pipe cleaners - take one and twirl it around your finger to make a sort of spiral spring - endless fun, and once it's squashed, all you have to do is twirl it again to make it good as new!

/ if your cat refuses to play at all, it might be time for a vet visit

i crumple up receipts or other bits of paper for them to play with. tin foil from cigarette packs works good too. the kitten especially loves playing with the headphones from my wife's iPod. i often hide food in hard to get places to make them look for it. another thing they enjoy a lot is when i put some tape on them. just a little piece on the top of the head, or on the side of the body. they love that. once a month or so i get the neighbors german shepard to come in here, and he chases the hell out them. i think that's good exercise too. of course, fair is fair, so as often as possible i bring home some live mouse, or baby chicken...gold fish, even a crab a few times (which gets eaten after), so that the kitties can have a chance to kill some things. i have loads of pics.

Alrighty then...I was going to make a couple suggestions but it looks like you've just about got it covered. ;-p
