yobbery: OlderGuy: yobbery: We have a weather related emergency going on here at Casa de Yobbery. It's under control now.
We noticed the basement carpet was wet and then discovered the utility room was flooded. There was so much water I was sure it was the 3 month old water heater, but I couldn't find anything leaking at the water heater or the washer.

The wife noticed water in odd spots, particularly around the furnace. It turns out that the drain tube for the AC condenser was partially clogged. The damn thing has been running all day and the drain flow couldn't keep up with how much water it's been pulling out of the air. Between the shop vac and the carpet shampooer we must have pulled up at least six gallons of water so far!

Fortunately the man cave is part of an addition and there's a concrete wall separating it from the utility room, so no water got in there.
The cats insisted on helping...so we let them.
[i211.photobucket.com image 490x317]

There is a device made for that.. is actually part of the condensate trap.. it has a built-in float switch that will shut off the outside unit so no more water is produced.. I suppliment the ones that I install with a red light (28 volt).. the red light is connected to the two wires from the float switch, along with the thermostat circuit. If the float switch opens, the low voltage goes through the light, which won't pass enough current to run the outdoor unit..so when your house starts to get warm, you can find out why fairly quickly..

That's a great idea, but a little more than I want to get involved with at this point. I never even noticed the trap in the tube until last evening. I usually open the furnace up yearly and give it a good internal cleaning. I'll just add the drain tube to the list of maintenance items.

Usually the drain line comes out of the side of the cooling coil.. then there is the trap, which holds some water.. this prevents air from being sucked back into the coil pan, allowing it to drain properly.. cleaning out that trap a couple times during the summer will also resolve the problem.. algae forms in the trap from dust washed off the coil.. clean that out, and you are good to go.. you can also get some algae-kill tablets , but those have to go in the drain pan itself. I am a certified HVACR tech.. if you are going to do maintainance on the system and want some advice, email me a pic of it and I will be happy to advise.. working full time at the brewery but still go on some calls.. the fun is when the homeowner wants to learn about their system.. I get to teach.. actually very rewarding.. and the homeowner also knows what not to do, and why..

MoronLessOff: StranahansBarracuda: Dad, aka The King of Cheap, reuses the pipe cleaners until I'm so grossed out I toss em. It's impossible to change him, so I work around him :)

That's gross. I use a fresh cleaner each time. Both ends through the stem and then a swab around the bowl. A bag of cleaners is only a few bucks. You can find even better deals if you shop around, but I have a local Tinder Box, so I favor them. Get him a few packs of cleaners and, if he doesn't have one, a nice pipe lighter. Maybe that will persuade him to throw used cleaners out of kitty reach.

Nope, and it is mighty gross. I have gotten him to weigh them down by placing a stone ash tray on top of them so George can't knock them off the table.

/threadjack
You see, the man was born in Czechoslovakia in 1940. He remembers having the Russians in the house and the Germans in the yard while hiding in the root cellar. He dismantled grenades as a kid and threw the firing mechanism in the river to kill fish for food. When he got an orange in his stocking for Christmas he ate it peel and all. It's very much like having a Depression era parent. The man can make a 12 pack of paper towels last a year. He eats RAMEN for lunch every day (oy! the sodium!) He's currently wearing a pair of orange J. Crew shorts I abandoned in 1990 (he's slim and I buy things big.) I have to pick my battles, but thank you for the suggestions :)

Cool story, bro. The man deserves a nice lighter. One like this can be found for $60 or so:
www.brenandsven.com

Tool right in the lighter.

Also, check some antique shops for an old spittoon. Shine it up and you have a nice pipe cleaner disposal that can't be knocked over easily and compliments a smoking room very well. Granted, kitty could probably still reach in, but it's a start.

Here's another 100 ct for cheap.

Yea, I miss the XP picture we used to see every week.

Phewwwww. Gone on vacation 2 weeks so I had to catch up on last weeks Caturday and this one. Good to be home though. The cat sitter did great with Wentworth. She must have, he didn't even care we were home. I brought him back a nipz plant. I need to plant it, but wonder if it can be grown inside since he isn't an outside cat? He has already uprooted it twice since we got back yesterday.

Still lots of unpacking to do. So, I may or may not get some cat pictures posted this week.

Hugs to everyone who has sick kittehs, and sads in their life.

Her mother whose name I'd have to look up went on the Alien Tour with Kim, then Alien Narrr!, to Texas.
I seem to recall something being said that Delta might reside permanently at Little Mews
& not be adopted out. Either cretinbob or domari would have to confirm or deny.

A very young Delta given The Puce Guardian's fractalizing treatment..
Was 99.44% certain I'd scanned or photoed Delta as a Flatcat before sending it to Kim,
but am not immediately finding that. Did buy a Delta Calendar to be sent.
Calls for a Search methinx. Should also be able to find her mom's name, which I really ought to recall ....

Sorry to hear Sarah is not feeling well. I hope the vet solves the mystery quickly,

As far as emergency vet service in my town it's not to bad but cost alot.
A few years ago most of the local vets got together and opened an emergency clinic with hours of 8pm to 8am and all day Sunday they all take turns staffing it.
It has come in handy a few times for my family because in the middle of the night you can just load you pet in the car and go. No calling in advance but you do have to have your credit card handy because they are strictly immediate payment.

akimbotoo, gremlin1, predle, laulaja, thank you.

Sarah's been breathing kind of weird for the past week or so, short rapid breaths all the time even when she's sleeping. Now it's starting to look like it's taking her rather a bit too much effort to breathe at times. It isn't cramping her style but it sure isn't good. Could be a symptom of water on the lungs or congestive heart failure. Her temperature is normal and her gums are still nice & pink, at least when I checked, so that's a plus. But a sudden change in breathing isn't the kind of thing one should wait around to see if it gets better by itself. She's losing weight too which is worrisome as her appetite is still pretty good most of the time.

Hoping for the best but fearing the worst. :( Please keep your fingers and paws crossed for my little girl.
