Hey FARK Caturday regulars!

Thanks for the advice y'all gave me last week about my issues with integrating outside momcat and her new brood with our indoor cats.

Mom and her young'uns are living in our bedroom. There is still no love from her for indoor cats, so that's where she's gonna stay. It's funny, really, because although she sees the other cats as a threat.and would seemingly take great pleasure in shredding them into bite-sized chunks, she absolutely loves our dog Janey. She rubs up against her and loves on her every time Janey comes into the room. At bedtime, Janey sleeps at the foot of our bed and Mom cuddles up to her between kitty feedings. Janey, however, finds this a bit disconcerting at times, but she tolerates it well.

Sadly, one of the kittens died last Saturday evening, It was the runt, and really didn't look good from the start, but we were hopeful.

So, because Caturday is fueled by kittypics, here is the gang of 7:

Hi gang! So my husbandman decided we need to stop free feeding. Our cats have coloe coded fatness. Kamiyama and Takenouchi (the yellows) are skinny no matter what. Percy and Jack (the blacks) are sort of fat but the Vet says they are fine but should not gain weight. Victoria and Elizabeth (the grays) are fatties and can not be trusted to free feed. Tori looks like she has udders. Anyway, we now feed them and when thy are done we put away the extra food. Last night, i found that Takenouchi had covered his food plate with a napkin. I think he was trying to hide the food from us. XD

Da Bird is the best cat toy! You have to play with them, but it is fun as hell. Cat dood Jackson Galaxy introduced us to it and it is our cats favorite toy.

OlderGuy: Greetings All.. Home from the brewery.. we had a July 4th celebration day at work.. also to celebrate the new law that allows us to serve pints for consumption on premises.. ( SB604).. we were hoping for at least 2000 folks to show up.. actual number was 5000+.. we had rented the field across the street so folks could view the fireworks at the Diamond ( baseball field).. we almost emptied the walk-in box.. (20' X 24' X 16' tall).. everybody had fun.. we had food trucks outside, a band, picnic tables everywhere.. 17 hour day for most of us.. came in on Thursday for the clean up and went back home to sleep....
I haven't had a chance to get kitten pics out.. 9 days old and they are definitely growing.. mommacat is doing her job well.. very attentive.. tried about 6 different kinds of catfood so far.. nada.. won't touch any of it.. at this point I am giving her whatever she will eat, so the kittens will stay nourished.. she doesn't growl at the door anymore, I think she's getting accustomed to the scent of the crew.. I wasn't home for the local fireworks, but I did find three of the crew hiding behind the couch when I did get home... and time to feed everyone..BBL...

Keeping Mama and kittens fed is definitely a priority. Raw food diet is 60% meat, 20% grain, 20% veggie. Not saying give raw meat, just percentages to aim for when giving Mama people food.

One thing you might try is mixing small amounts of canned kitten food in with people food.

IMHE, cats get bored with the same toys, try rotating them from time to time, or add a bit of catnip to make them more interesting. As others have said, what you may consider a piece of trash could be an awesome toy. A milk jug ring or a bottle cap can provide hours of fun. Dragon recommends that if you have a dollar store near you, look in the craft section for the 12" long colored pipe cleaners - take one and twirl it around your finger to make a sort of spiral spring - endless fun, and once it's squashed, all you have to do is twirl it again to make it good as new!

[i415.photobucket.com image 500x320]

/ if your cat refuses to play at all, it might be time for a vet visit

When I was a kid, my cat Angel (who was anything but) "taught" me how to play fetch with her with a milk jug ring. We were downstairs in the basement eating pizza after a Redskins game and she walks over and deposits this purple plastic ring on my paper plate. I was still eating, so I flicked it away. She ran after it, brought it back and dropped it on the plate again. Rinse and repeat.

It was her favorite game for years. She also had a fetish for clean hair and Flexall 454. i'd come into the living room after a shower and she'd jump up on the couch behind me and start purring and rubbing up against my head. Then she would get so overstimulated that she'd flop down onto her side and latch onto my head with all four sets of claws. YEOWCH!

The smell of Flexall 454 got the same reaction + copious amounts of kitty drool.

I have a cat questions for you cat experts. I have one cat. He had FHV as a kitten so based on what I understand he still have FHV. So can I never get another cat? Are there FHV positive cats I could adopt? I am going to ask my vet, but I thought I'd ask you guys too. I understand that all cats are vaccinated for FHV but it sounds like the vaccine does not prevent the disease- it just makes it less severe.

Cat in question:
i37.photobucket.com

Backstory:
My boyfriend's mom bought Freckles 15 years ago from some kind of breeder. She got a discount because he had FHV (as a young kitten, but he survived). As the boyfriend's parents got older they got tired of Freckles Bengal tendencies like loud meowing, playing in water, and generally being a playful social cat. So Freckles lives with us now. He is a great cat for us because he is fearless, loves dogs, loves playing, and gets a lot of attention which keeps the extremely loud meowing to a minimum. Freckles FHV doesn't seem to flare up although he occassionally will sneeze but he is never really sick or loses weight and he always eats (I feed him canned food for breakfast and dinner and he eats dry food in between).

My parents live out in the country and they see a lot of stray or completely feral cats running around. There was a shy cat that started coming around their house and was extremely friendly and a few weeks later it became obvious that she was pregnant. They started feeding her and took her into their home (they have another cat, pregnant cat was put in a quarantined spare bedroom) and now she has had 6 kittens. They are going to have the 'barnyard special' spay/neuter when the kittens are old enough and are trying hard to find them homes. Kittens in question:

Hey Tanga! That's a nice orange ball you got there.

She loves that stupid thing. We don't play fetch, we play 'watch me carry a ball around.'

I bet she's an excellent 'watch me carry a ball around' player.

Suzy's favorite game is 'running around like a maniac squeaking a ball' and sometimes she plays fetch.

Good morning Caturday! I have missed the antics of recent weeks but I figured I would catch up on how everyone is doing. I brought the coffee pot because I am going to need it today...

Pico is now spending night outside of his room. It really took him 6 months before he would leave Corky alone all night (daytime is another story). Last night though, he was trying hard to make me regret my decision.

This week, I had to fish him out of the ceiling (twice), he figured out how to balance on top of open doors and took out the screen door (again). Anyway, it started out pretty well; he snuggled up beside me for a couple of hours before he decided to attempt every possible evil thing possible in 1 hour. I even went to the basement to escape him but he followed me there. I had to put him in his room so that I could sleep but he started wailing to be let out (which he has NEVER done) and played all night in the room situated over my head. I am normally awake before the SO gets home from the night shift but he found me still asleep in his spot and I didn't move when he crawled in. Thank FSM it's Caturday.

Now a kitten. This is my sister's newest addition, Wiki. He is 6 weeks old and TOO FARKIN' CUTE. Even though he is pure evil, he was content to be held all evening by the various humans that would have him.

Dawwwwww! Lil Bub!

We had a bulldog with special needs. Seizures, only one eye, neuro issues, teeth missing on one side, and a cleft palate. Her kidneys quit and we lost her last year, but she was the spunkiest little fireball and just a joy to be around. (Lil Bub eats just like Midge did.) If you're ever owned by a special needs pet like that, you'll forever have the biggest soft spot for them. And this kitty hits that soft spot right in the middle.
