I think this article overlooks the more significant issue: the insurer have him a whooping FIFTY dollars for the loss of his cat. Even if you consider a cat as furniture, replacing it costs hundreds in acquisition, neutering, vaccination and (optionally) declawing. And that's for a "generic" cat at the local pet shelter.

Fifty dollars for a cat? The insurance company could save a bundle if they'd just go scrape some of those gently used cats off the free way and repurposed them as pets.

Dead cat insurance payout: $50

In all fairness, the brain parasites he contracted from the feces of his beloved kitty had probably devoured a good portion of his grey matter, effectively leaving him "cat" blind, a rare condition that literally makes it impossible for him to tell two cats apart.

It really is a shame that this part of the Internet is so censored, the most quintessential of all cat memes, "Free Cat", will never make an appearance in this thread.

Reminds me of years ago when Microsoft launched the anti-Mac switcher campaign. They posted a testimonial from an art director saying she switched from Macs to Windows PCs to be more efficient and creative.

Failing to recognize one of Apple's primary user bases, designers everywhere were quick to comment that the "art director" in the ad was a commonly used picture of a woman from a stock photo site.

Montreal area. 90 for a cat at the shelter, 250 ish for neutering + vaccines. There's zero investment in animal control here. Just a lowest bidder crap of a city pound that quickly produced PETA-style mouth-frothing scandals

Insurance fraud CSB:

Several years ago, while my wife & I were in my 1998 Tracker, we were slammed into from behind by a Dodge truck while stopped (at the back of a line of cars) on an off-ramp. The rear of my Tracker accordioned - we figured he hit us at about 25-30 mph - and we were nudged (read "less than 5 mph collision") into the car in front of us.

The couple in the Dodge were a bit sore but uninjured. My wife and I, who were also a bit sore, were also uninjured. The woman in the car in front of us attempted to claim everything from severe auto damage to personal injury and disability. Our insurance agent laughed her ass off explaining this to us, while verifying our details and the police report.

That was the first tip.

A cat is like an emotionally unstable teenage daughter, at best.

I got my cat from the Human Society, not sure if I could insure her for $10 let alone demand 20K in compensation.

I got into an accident with a lady like that once. Light turned, she stopped suddenly in to let a car change lanes, I wasn't paying close attention. 5 MPH at best, we both pulled over to the taco bell to wait for the cop, to get the formal report. She said she wouldn't have bothered, but she was selling the car and would need to get the painting covered- that's all it was, just a little paint scraped off both bumpers. Nice enough, and certainly she seemed perfectly fine.

A few weeks later, the insurance company calls to confirm a few details, she or her doctor was apparently trying to get money for whiplash. They took care of it, but I kinda shook my head. Really? I play hockey, and routinely crash (or get crashed) in to things at far faster speeds. Bodies aren't that delicate. Really, whatever. Her cash grab doesn't really affect my policy, and I doubt her insurance company was particularly interested in paying it.

He must have GIS'ed the cat's name too.

This is how the insurance company looks at cats.

If the cost of repairing the cat is worth more than the cat, then said cat is totaled.
