I'll have you know the section that caters to the adults has one of the most complete collections of "Sweet Pickles" books in the nation, with multiple copies to ensure availability. They tend to play light on "The Hardy Boys" and "Nancy Drew" due to their rather racy and controversial topics.

Being a single story building does limit the damage. Less of a vantage point. Now if they were to scab on a clock tower I would run the opposite direction.

And here is our Dean Koontz section. And over here is every single Anne Macaffrey dragon book ever written. You'll notice that there isn't a single person browsing through the nonfiction section. There's one guy in reference but he's trying to find a Chilton for a 93 Cutlass Supreme. He can't find it because he didn't use the card catalog, which people don't use when they realize those aren't part of the computer lab which is full 24/7

Given the tone of your post, I'm assuming areas that would qualify might be such "tiny spots getting tinier" as the 4th, 7th, 9th, and 13th most populous cities in the U.S. (all of which have Democratic mayors, favored Obama in 2008, and are growing)?

Hate on Texas all you want; there are plenty problems here. But, FFS, it's not a homogeneous, wall-to-wall, GOP empire. Those four cities alone account for ~20% of the population of the state.

Only problem is the receipt checkers at the door, and every time a book is checked out, it's replaced by a cheap Chinese copy.

My town is turning an abandoned grocery store into a library and a few other shops. It's not WalMart big, but it's going to be one of the bigger libraries in the area.

Texas, where they no longer throw people in jail for marijuana possession (they've started to realize the 'war on drugs' is costly and just makes more inmates) and Wal-Mart's turn into Libraries!

It's almost like an 'anti-america' brewing down there

When they were having wild fires down there it was just a laugh riot here on Fark, because property being destroyed and lives being threatened is just so hilarious when you're an ignorant hate monger that makes even the worst of the people you disagree with seem wonderful by comparison. I was tempted to post some of the same things some of the good, kind heart liberals said about Texas fires verbatim but just switch the name to Colorado, then watch the screaming rhetoric in response before posting the posting screen shots of some of the things that were said about Texas but it seemed like a way to get hit with a mod hammer.

But mostly? California followed the liberal way, and is going down the drain economically while Texas is booming. You will find that nothing pisses off liberals so much as proof of how wrong they are.

Gawker was not exactly truthful when they said WalMart left McAllen. WalMart still has two supercenters in McAllen

Uh, I was born in Texas. In Houston at Ben Taub to be exact. I just got back last week from about a month long stint in Hunstville(still laugh about Big Sam) helping out with my one of my daughter's first born.

So yeah I do know.

The thing is all those populous and growing areas that are not wall-to-wall GOP have voting pools that are either apathetic or to disorganized to slow down the Good Ol' Boy network when it comes to most of the local and state politics.

Go for it. The fire happened in one of the most conservative/libertarian areas of the state.

Sidenote: What happened in CO Springs was terrible and hard to watch on TV. Even if the city is full of Ayn Rand reading, Christian fundamentalist farktards. I know there are others in CO Springs that don't fit this unfortunate stereotype
