Rarest things at Comic Con:
Tickets
Air Conditioning
A place to stand still without being jostled

Strangely, the best place to find the last one is in the dealer's room at any booth that sells actual comics.

Wow, they even got the old Turtles grins from the original toy line. Leo and Raph had off center toothy sneers (one left, the other right,) Mike had an even, full tooth grin, and Don had an even grin but kept his front teeth covered. That's some weird nostalgic attention to detail.

Whilst my nostalgia for my childhood is strong, I just can't get excited about new toys for old shows. They already got me (or rather my parents) once when I was a kid, I don't need to spend 5 times as much now. The only exception would be another Captain Power interactive show, I'd shell out for that.

the turtles looked lame compared to the old ones
I would take the masters of evil pack and the heli carrier
Derpy? why not
and finally a giant want for the death action figure

A beautiful box set featuring figures of Brawl, Vortex, Blastoff, Swindle and Onslaught that, through dark magic, can be assembled into the Constructicon leader Bruticus.

The Venture Bros... my favourite show on tv of the last few years, and it has just the right amount of popularity. Just enough that they'll make more episodes, not so many fans that it becomes worn out.

/I think it hits too close to home for some geeks to be really popular
//Go Team Venture
///still not gonna buy a toy though.

I'm not really excited over any of these. I think mainly because I remember how much of a pain in the ass it was to get a limited edition something 5 years ago, when the con was only just above 100k people. Now it's so big some of these must be literally impossible unless you manage to get in early, and even then not enough to pop a nerd boner over.

Cool story, sis: my company manufactures bookbags & laptop cases. When discussing licensing opporunities during a recent sales meeting, I suggested MLP. The incredulous looks I got defy description. I just couldn't convey to these people just how popular ponies are right now.

Yeah, I saw the pre-order for it at BBTS. It won't be as massive as the Comic-Con Bruticus, but it will still be awesome. I need something to pair up with the Wal-Mart exclusive Devastator re-release from 2008.

Raug the Dwarf: Oooh, the Masters of Evil looked fun.

I'm hoping I'll be able to snag that and the X-Force set.

You know what does work though? Taking your own hand-made Captain America shield. I finished working on mine a few weeks ago and took it to the Florida Supercon in Miami this past weekend to have the back signed by Allen Bellman, Neal Adams and George Perez. Could not walk more than 10 feet without someone wanting to touch, hold, buy or get a picture with it. Here I am with three Star Spangled girls. It was non-stop. I think the shield got more attention than a lot of people in full costume. Meeting Allen Bellman was nice. He did the background art and worked on Captain America from the start back in the 40's. Him and his wife loved the shield. Now, if I can only get Stan Lee's autograph. Anyway, it was a fun afternoon and my first comic-con. Think I'll have to make the trek to SDCC one day.

PanicMan: chewielouie: Taking your own hand-made Captain America shield

Started with a blank 26" spun aluminum shield I got from a guy in Miami. He sells them regularly on eBay for about $175. There are several shield build threads over at the Replica Prop Forum with pictures and people sharing how to make them. Anyone with a little skill and some patience can make one. The bracket and straps are pretty close to how the shield in the movie looks. I painted this one myself, but took it to a body shop to have them apply a few automotive clear coats. You can imagine how that initial conversation went down: "Um, yeah guys . . . crazy question here, but um . . . I have this Captain America shield . . . "

Anyway, here's a pic of the autographs on the back.

Even if they didn't want to take the adult fanbase into account, more than enough tweens have laptops to justify picking up some licenses targeting that demographic. Hell, bookbags are practically a given for those licenses...can't even imagine how many kids get superhero ones, Pokemon ones, and so on.

But it do bring up the idea that Hasbro/Kenner-TakaraTomy have never given us a right and proper Dinobot combiner. A couple of not-quites, but not the whole group.
