We then started working together on when the next few divorces would be, assuming that he remarried immediately. And he's enjoying working it out too. true...they are more the exception than the rule. and i'm not just talking about tmz-type media, anyway. sure tom and guys like him are all over tabloids and such acting crazy, whereas those other guys aren't. but the 3 you mentioned, for example, do show some crazy...deniro and hoffman, as you recall, were BOTH in focker movies (and as much as i love the first one, the other 2 leave a lot to be desired), and pacino is noticably nuts AND was in the worst movie sandler ever made, as crazy love interest to the sister, portrayed by sandler

I can excuse these mis-steps because (a the script you get may not resemble the final product, b) serious actors don't seem to understand that comedy is harder to pull off, and c) sometimes you have to do a favor. Also, Ben Stiller, given his parentage, is good at comedy. (Yes, I am old enough to remember Stiller and Meara stand up routines.)

i am not old enough to remember ben's dad for anything other than seinfeld and king of queens...but judging from those and from ben's work i say both jerry and ben are far more than capable of quality comedy. ben's done plenty of good stuff, and i won't even say that fockers 2 & 3 were bad...just not as good as 1.

i was, however, being quite the smart@ss by mentioning these "mis-steps" by these 3 brilliant actors. i actually enjoy that thespians of such a stellar rank would even consider such roles...shows humility...shows a down-to-earth quality in them, and even a playful side. actually in the 2nd and 3rd focker films dustin's is one of the funnier characters

Well, Nicholas Cage could use his birth name, Nicholas Coppola, but people might no make the connection. (Note this is not an endorsement of his acting ability, just his brand.) And Charlie Sheen seems to be doing better than his brother. And Ricky vanished for a while, then came back as Rick, and as you note, is still Ricky. So I agree with you, use the name people know.

She was changing her name from Kitty to Karen. I can see why she wouldn't want to be Kitty anymore. On the other hand, trading from an MG to a Chrysler...well, at least the Chrysler will just break, instead of catching on fire.

I know a few Katies who have always been Katie, even though they're nearing or getting younger than 30. I'm pretty sure they'll always be Katie. I actually dated a girl whose birth name was Katie. Not Kate, or Katherine, or Kathleen. Just Katie.

I've also known a Katie and a Debbie that, in and after college, tried to do away with the younger nickname. "Kate" seemed to have a lot more success, though her family still went back to Katie now and then. "Deb" always had a harder time getting people to stop using Debbie.

My grandmother had a thing against names that were longer than 5, 6 letters at most (something about it being too hard for a child to learn to spell a long name). Because of that, she kept trying to call me Katie when I was little since she felt my name had too many letters and didn't approve of the spelling that my parents chose. Oh yeah, and it would drive me nuts when I was little because I'd introduce myself to adults as Kathryn, but then they'd insist on trying to shorten it to Katie even after I'd try to correct it.
